Foster awareness Avoid scolding and lecturing Actively involve students Accept ambiguity Separate the deed from the “doer” Treat every instance of challenging behavior and conflict as a learning opportunity

YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School philosophy for using restorative justice framework: Create a positive climate and culture Empower staff to handle most behavioral issues Involve Dean of Students when there are significant or chronic infractions Encourage staff to incorporate their own experiences and build relationships with students
