Meeting with 25 Barrett Honors College Students on April 25, 2016.
Four projects recruited students:

School of Sustainability Engineering & Built Environment

4. Key Factors to Success
Establish course titles and credits/college/major
Meet with students to describe overall goals of program opportunities/college/major
Conduct session for researchers to present opportunities to all students and respond to questions, and then separate into interest groups led by faculty
Employ the 3P elements in each VIP team:
Project: Students engage in long-term research projects
Product: Students produce projects (e.g., research paper, film, model, app)
Performance: Students present work to audience of peers, faculty, and friends.

5. Challenges and Possible Strategies
All 14 ASU colleges offer some research opportunities, mostly short-term
Only the Barret Honors College has major long-term research programs
Strategy to Address Challenges:
In Summer/Fall 2016, begin with Barrett students
Document the process of recruitment and methods for tracking students and recording their successes and difficulties.
In spring 2017, expand the program to have more VIP Projects
Include non-Barrett as well as Barrett students

6. Opportunities
Four current VIP leaders are working with key organizations/corporations with their own funding, e.g.,
Intel, Google, NSF, Mayo Hospital, the VA
Excellent potential for continuing funding
Other well-funded groups are eager to conduct VIP programs, e.g.,
Thunderbird and Carey Business School
Ask a Biologist and the BioXFEL Project in the College Liberal Arts and Science
Sound and Music Technologies in the Herberger School for the Arts and the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering
