Think about the writing you read everyday… , memos, white papers, business plans, reports, etc. Please write ON THE BOARD: One (1) thing you LIKE about reading business writing. What makes you say “wow, this is good writing!” One (1) thing you DISLIKE about reading business writing. What makes you say “arg” or simply stop reading?

6 What do I want my reader to KNOW? What do I want my reader to DO?
“Have something to say, and say it as clearly as you can. That is the only secret of style.” -- Matthew Arnold. WHY am I writing? What do I want my reader to KNOW? What do I want my reader to DO? What do I want my reader to FEEL?

7 EVERYTHING you need to know about GRAMMAR:
1. What are the three parts to a sentence? Subject, Verb, Predicate 2. What is the most important part of the sentence? Depends on WHY you are writing… But often the VERB. 3. What is a pronoun? A noun that takes the place of another noun. Beware of THIS!

8 Start Strong! End Strong!
Thesis: What is the one thing you want your reader to remember? 2. Give your readers a ROAD MAP so they know what to expect when. End Strong! 3. Restate your MESSAGE – what do you want your reader to remember?

9 Read out LOUD! Your writing sounds different in your own head.
