2 Study of EGRET sources March 30, 2004 Reference: Hartman et. c The Third EGRET Catalog of High-Energy Gamma-Ray Sources ApJ, 123:79-202, 1999 July The Third EGRET Catalog consists of 271 sources: 5 pulsars, 1 solar flare, 66 high-confidence blazar identifications, 27 possible blazar identifications, 1 likely radio galaxy (Cen A), 1 normal galaxy (LMC), and 170 unidentified sources.

3 Study of EGRET sources History 1st EGRET catalogue: 127 (1EG)
2nd EGRET catalogue: 129 (2EG) Supplement to 2nd EGRET catalogue: 157 (2EGS) 3th EGRET catalogue: 271 (3EG) Oct, 2002

4 Properties of Gamma-Ray Pulsars

4. GEV J /AX J Reference: Reimer et. c MNRAS, 324: , 2001

6 About RX J0007.0+7302 At the center of SNR CTA 1
Right Ascension: Declination: Size (/arcmin): 90? (~107 ׳) Flux density at 1 GHz (/Jy): 36 Spectral Index: 0.6 Kinematic distance: kpc Another name : G ; 2EG J (?); GRO J ; RX J At the center of SNR CTA 1 Image of the observation Reference: Slane et. c ApJ, 601: , 2004 Feb.

7 About RX J No radio counterpart to RX J is identified in a list of compact sources by Pineault et al.(1993) List of observation data: Date PI offset exposure time (s) $ ASCA /1/25 Slane CTA1_center (Gis) 41264(Sis) $Chandra 2003/4/13 Halpern RX J k(Acis-S) 2004/4/13 Murray WGA J000702_ k(HRC-I) $ROSAT 1996/12/31 Seward CTA1_center (PSPCB) CTA1_south (PSPCB) CTA1_EAST (PSPCB) 1997/2/ E (HRI) 1225(HRI) $XMM /2/21 Slane CTA

8 About RX J ASCA observations show that the diffuse central emission is nonthermal, presumably corresponding to a wind nebula by a active NS. Reference: Slane et. c ApJ, 601: , 2004 Feb.

9 About RX J0007.0+7302 A substructure in the inner portions
Note: 60ks ASCA observation which was used to observe the southern shell of the SNR was carried out on 1997 Feb. 10 A substructure in the inner portions of the extended nebula. Such structure is now known to be in PWNe, as illustrated by high resolution X-ray images of the Crab and Vela pulsars.

10 XMM-Newton and ASCA XMM-Newton (1999 -) ASCA (1993-2001)
Very large collecting area, simultaneous X-ray & Optical observations. Energy range: 0.1 – 15 keV PI: European Space Agency ASCA ( ) Japan’s 4th cosmic X-ray astronomy mission. Energy range: keV. First satellite to use CCD detector for X-ray astronomy. PI:Japan/US Catalog: AX hhmm.m ±ddmm (e.g. AX J )

11 Basic characteristics of XMM-Newton
XMM-Newton provides three types of science instrument: European Photon Imaging Camera (EPIC) Reflection Grating Spectrometer (RGS) Optical Monitor (OM) Basic characteristics: High sensitivity Simultaneous operation of all science instruments Good angular resolution Moderate and high spectral resolution Simultaneous optical/UV observations Long continuous target visibility

14 Periodicity Search in XMM data of RX J0007.0+7302
circle(00:07:02.077,+73:03:09.92,15") From PSF, I reserve the photons in the energy region [0.2-12]kev Finally, I get 2264 counts. According to the article (ApJ., 601, 2004 Feb. 1), we choose the circle(00:07:02.203,+73:03:07.20,9.6") and filter in the same energy region. Finally, I get 1106 counts.

27 ╮(╯_╰)╭ This is Lupin!! Intriguing Features of ASCA data 下次再說吧!
今天不告訴你!!

28 Future Plan Some EGRET unidentified sources have been reported to have probable X-ray counterparts. Periodicities in the X-ray data of those sources, if found, may help to strengthen the identification and to reveal their nature. We will perform a detailed search of periodicity in the X-ray observation data of possible pulsar candidates, which has the counterparts to Gamma -ray sources , with the H-test and the method of epoch folding. Maybe our work can give a direct evidence in multifrequency studies and open a window to study Geminga-like pulsars.
