NIHB 2009 Tribal Public Health Profile –only national level information on Tribal public health capacity NIHB 2018 Tribal Public Health Profile will provide parity for Indian Country information needs with states, cities and counties Profile of State Health Department Data - Association of State and Territorial Health Officials Profile of Local Health Department Data Health - National Association of County and City Health Officials Funded by CDC How much funding does go to tribal public heatlh?

4 Funding of Tribal Public Health
NIHB aims to collect information that will provide a picture of public health funding needs similar to information we have for Indian health care Healthcare (2013) Nationally: $7,717 per person Tribal: $2,849 per person Public Health (2013) Nationally: $239 per person  Tribal: ?

5 Survey Topics Governing Tribal Entities Public Health Accreditation
Public Health Finance Public Health Workforce Public Health Priorities Public Health Activities Public Health Accreditation Communications Information Management Public Health Needs

6 End Goal Profile report that contains information that can be used to educate Congress, the Administration and federal agencies (i.e. – IHS, CDC, SAMHSA), and key policy makers on the resources needed to build and expand the capacity of Tribal public health

7 Benefits to Tribes & Tribal Organizations
Assess Tribal public health systems to identify needs Identify Tribal priorities for development and resource allocation Identify opportunities for technical assistance Establish baseline information that can be used to gauge progress over time

8 Survey Development & Rollout
Additional input from all 12 Areas on instrument Respondents: Tribal Health Departments Directors (Likely will need multiple individuals within a Tribe to answer some questions) Survey response by web, print & mail in, telephone One-on-one technical assistance, as needed, from NIHB

9 Upcoming Activities: July – August 2017
Outreach to all 12 Areas for additional input on survey Finalize and submit survey tool in August Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Clearance after tools are finalized Survey rollout: November 2017
