1 Subject and Object Pronouns

2 Today… We are going to look at some different types of pronouns.
How do we know when to use I and when to use me? They or them? We or us? He or him? We have to look at the case!

3 Lets Review… What are nouns? people places things animals

4 Subject Pronouns Subject pronouns are pronouns that takes the place of a noun in the subject position: Ask yourself: Who or what is this sentence about? What is the subject of the sentence? Mike had lunch with Jessica = He had lunch with Jessica. (subject noun) (subject pronoun)

5 Subject Pronouns Example:
Rita likes books! She loves them so much! In this case SHE is the subject pronoun. It replaces Rita.

6 Subject Pronouns Here are the common subject pronouns:
Memorize these and you shouldn’t have any trouble picking out subject pronouns! Singular Plural I You He, She It We They

7 Let’s find some subject pronouns! (And ONLY the subject pronouns!)
Tom and Jen are friends. They are friends. Ann likes baseball. She likes baseball. John is a great student. He is a great student. My mother and I look alike. We look alike.

8 Subject Pronouns *Replace the subject with a subject pronoun.
My friends and I love to go to the mall. The dog is white and black. The teachers are really nice. You are so funny!

9 Object Pronouns An object pronoun is a pronoun that takes place of a noun in the object position. It’s“The Receiver” of the action It is in the predicate of the sentence Mike had lunch with Jessica. = Mike had lunch with her. (object noun) (object pronoun)

10 Object Pronouns Example:
Getting good grades makes Olivia happy. Hanging out with friends makes her happy too. In this case her is the object pronoun. Her replaces Olivia.

11 Object Pronouns Here are the common object pronouns.
You should memorize these, too. Singular Plural Me You Him, her It Us Them

12 Let’s find some object pronouns! (AND ONLY THE OBJECT PRONOUNS!)
Give the paper to Stephanie. Give it to her. I walk home with John and Mike. I walk home with them. I wanted my Dad to call me. I wanted him to call me. The teacher said that you are smart. The teacher said that you are smart.

13 Object Pronouns *Replace the noun with an object pronoun.
Put the pencil on the desk. Can you explain to Kevin what the homework is? I am going to the play with my sisters.
