1 5/10 Bell Ringer Write “VOCAB” on your bell ringer sheet, then write these definitions onto your vocabulary. You will need them for today’s discovery activity. (If you lost it, write on notebook paper!!!) Radius The distance from the center of a circle to the outside. Diameter Straight line from one side of circle to the other, going through the center. Circumference Distance around a circle. Think of it as perimeter of a circle. r d Homework: Circumference, Radius and Diameter Independent Practice. Get out your independent practice from last night  Real world problems of area.

2 5/10 News and Notes Perfection Award: 8th Period Quiz Make-ups:
1st: LaFontae, Erick 7th: Alyeyah, Leslie 8th: Sandy, Daniela, Daniel Mejia, Diego, China Tutoring WEDNESDAY!

3 5/10 Agenda I CAN define and identify diameter and radius and use them to define circumference. Engage – Vocabulary Start-Up Explore – Cheerios, Circles, and Circumference. Explain – Finish Vocab and 1 Example. Elaborate – Circumference, radius and diameter worksheet. Evaluate – WORKSHEET CHECKED FRIDAY!

4 Explore. You have 15 minutes to finish the “Explore” portion of today’s class. Work with a partner. No, we don’t have milk, so DO NOT eat the Cheerios. Line Cheerios up on outside of each circle Work through the front of the sheet step by step, otherwise you will get lost.

5 Explore Steps. 1. Fill out table for 3 out of the 5 circles.
2. Answer question set #1. 3. Read “IMPORTANT NEXT STEP” 4. Answer question set #2. 5. Put your Cheerios back in the bag.

6 Explain Question Set 2  Fill in if you didn’t get!
You should have found that How can we rework these equations to solve for C? So what’s the relationship between d and r? d = 2r

7 Explain 2. Example: A circle has r = 2 cm. What’s the diameter?
What’s the circumference? D = 2r D = 2(2) = 4 cm C = π d C = π(4) C = 4 π cm C = 2 π r C = 2(2) π C = 4 π cm

8 Explain 3. Find the diameter and circumference. d = 2r d = 2(14) km
C = 2 π r C = 2 π (14) C = 2(14) π C = 28 π km.

9 Elaborate. You have the rest of class to work on the independent practice problems on the back of your guided notes.
