November 11, 1918, WWI (called “the war to end all wars” ended) November 11, 1919, we created Armistice Day In 1953, after WWII, people of Emporia, Kansas called it “Veterans’ Day” to honor the veterans in their town. In 1971, it became a federal holiday, the second Monday in November
