2. Windows – File System
There is a different file system for each hardware device
The different file systems are identified at the root by an alpha character with C reserved for the first primary hard drive
Windows Explorer is the default GUI for viewing the file systems
Windows Explorer - Address Bar shows the selected folder
As actual path with backward slash delimiters
Optionally only the folder without the complete path
The primary File System starting point or root is C followed by :
Each folder and file is assigned to the the “Owner” or your login name
Folder owners can share folders with other users on the same computer or on the network
The starting point for saving files and folders for everyday work should be “My Documents”

3. Windows – File System
The default location to start Windows Explorer is the Start button\All Programs\Accessories
Windows Explorer may also be started by selecting Start button and My Documents
You may also want to place a My Documents short cut on the Desktop and/or the quick launch bar
Double click a folder to open it and gain access to files or other folders within – know as browsing
To create a new folder, right click in the Windows Browser and select New/Folder
The right click menu can also be used to delete, cut, copy or rename a folder

4. Windows – File System
Double click a file to open that file in its associated application for viewing, editing or printing
To create a new file use the application associated with the file type
You can Move a file in the browser:
Drag and Drop
Cut and Paste
To copy a file right click the file and select “Copy”
The right click menu can be used to rename a file
Delete a file by selecting and press “Delete” key or right click and “Delete”.
