St. John’s Church of England Primary School Newsletter
- Learning and Caring Together - Issue 1 Friday 8th September 2017 Welcome back! I hope you have all had a wonderful break over the summer and are raring to go at the start of another academic year at St. John’s. It has been lovely to hear from the children about some of their exciting news from over the holidays and I look forward to seeing you all on the yard. May I extend a special welcome to the families who are joining our community for the first time today! Thank you for all your efforts in making sure the children look so smart. It was wonderful to hear the buzz of cheerful children arriving back at school, catching up with class mates and looking to impress their new teachers! We were very sorry to see Mrs Lee leave us unexpectedly at the end of last year but are delighted that we are able to welcome Mrs Lawson who will be working in Reception. Temporarily, we welcome Mrs Hawthorn – also to the Reception team – and also welcome back Mr Deacon who will be assisting Ms Adam and Mrs Griffiths In Year 5. Meet the Teacher There will be an opportunity for parents to come into school and meet their child’s new teacher on Wednesday 13th September. Each class will be running two identical sessions – 6pm – 6:30pm and again from 6:30pm to 7pm – allowing those of you with more than one child to attend both! These meetings will be a valuable opportunity to find out a little about the curriculum your child will cover this year and any specific arrangements you will need to know about to ensure your child is organised for school life. Clubs These will start week commencing 18th September. Individual teachers will send out letters regarding their own clubs and an overview will be available on the website. The point of contact in all instances will be the teacher responsible for each club. They will be informing children of the equipment / kit needed in order to participate in that club. Breakfast and FAST clubs are both up and running again – should you require a place before or after school, please contact the office. Sal’s Shoes – a fantastic feat! Many thanks to all who donated their old school shoes at the end of last year. Fourteen bin bags were delivered from St. John’s and added to the pile from other schools in Southport and beyond - we even captured the moment one of our bags was being loaded! These shoes were then delivered en masse to the charity Sal’s Shoes who will be distributing them to children less fortunate than us across the world and helping them attend school.

ATTENDANCE Good attendance is vital when ensuring your child is able to fulfil their potential at school. Our school attendance target is 96% and we celebrate the best class each week by giving them some extra playtime! Each week we publish class attendance on the newsletter. Mrs Wignall, our Learning Mentor, is responsible for attendance and regularly monitors and contacts families of children whose attendance falls below 90% We would like to remind you that current government policy stipulates that we can not authorise holidays during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Please contact Mrs Wignall if you require further information. Useful contact details School Office – FAST club – Website – Prayer for the week: Dear God, Help us when we are frightened because we have to go somewhere new. Help us not to panic when we have to do something new. Help us not to be frightened of making a mistake. Help us to remember other people's feelings, especially if they are new to our school. Help us always to do our best. Amen.
