Atomic Bomb Manhattan Project Albert Einstein Robert Oppenheimer Hiroshima and Nagasaki VJ Day 9/2/45 Atomic Bomb Manhattan project was the code name for the secret building of the atomic bomb Albert Einstein’s theories were used to build the bomb. At first he was for the bomb but later when he realized the devastation it would cause was against it Robert Oppenheimer was the scientist in charge of building the bomb VJ Day Sept 2, 1945

11 Nuremberg Trials Nuremberg Trails: SS and Nazi’s were put on trial for crimes against humanity. They claimed they were just following orders. They were found guilty

12 Dividing of Germany Germany and the capital of Berlin were divided into 4 sectors (French, British, Americans and Soviet) to make sure they do not start another war.

13 Japanese Occupation New Government General Douglas MacArthur
The United States occupies Japan after the war. General Douglas MacArthur is the American in charge. He creates a new government based on our constitution.

14 United Nations United Nations is formed at the end of WWII. It is a world court where countries can go and discuss their problems. WE JOIN THIS

15 At Home GI Bill Suburbs Baby Boom
GI Bill: WWII soldiers are given a bonus after the war. They can use the money to start a business, go to college or buy a home Suburbs: plan communities that many GI’s move into because they are affordable. Levittown becomes the first planned community in the US Baby Boom: WWII soldiers return for the war and start a family. LARGEST GENERATION IN US HISTORY

16 Cold War Superpowers Isolationism? A reason we dropped the bomb
Superpowers: USA (democratic/capitalist) and USSR (Communist) become the two superpowers at the end of the war Isolationism: US can no longer remain isolationed at the end of WWII
