T.C. Knapp Elementary Mr. Boggs’ 3rd Grade Class Week of March 2nd, 2015 Math: This week in math, the students will find angles in plane shapes and real-world objects, compare the number of sides and angles of plane shapes, make right angles, and compare and identify right angles in plane shapes. The students will also identify both parallel and perpendicular lines. REMINDER: Although we are learning about geometry this week, students are still required to study their math facts each night for 15 minutes until all facts are mastered. Science/Social Studies: This week in science , the students will consider what makes an object a rock, as well as generate questions and topics for further discussion about rocks. They will also sort rocks according to different properties, and identify properties that are useful for describing and distinguishing different rocks. Dear Families, The students will take Unit 2 of the PARCC mathematics Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) this Tuesday, March 3rd. Please remind your child the importance of showing all of their work and doing their very best! Also, our picture day has been rescheduled for this Friday, March 6th. Have a wonderful week! Sincerely, Mr. Boggs Reading This week in reading, we will continue with the selection entitled, Young Thomas Edison. As we read this unique biography in class, we will look for information on why Thomas Edison was important, his life events in time order, and opinions based on facts. Our target skill of the week will again focus on main idea and details. The students will explain how details are used to support the main idea of a paragraph or story. Lastly, we will continue to focus on the vowel sound heard in talk. This will include the letters au, aw, al, and o. The students will have their test over this reading selection early next week. Spelling The students will have their test over Lesson 10 on early next week. Please continue to study these words throughout the week.
