(1) Now, brethren, we wish to make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia,
(2) that in a great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the wealth of their liberality.
(3) For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord,
(4) begging us with much urging for the favor of participation in the support of the saints,
(5) and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.

A. SUPPLIED by God’s GRACE

B. COMPLETED within a YEAR
8: 10 you were the first to begin a year ago, not only to do this, but to desire to do it!
C. ADMINISTERED with INTEGRITY
8: 19 Titus has been appointed by the churches to travel with us in this gracious work, which is being administered by us for the glory of the Lord

I. THE PRECEDENT SHOULD BE REVISITED
**This is something that was:
D. STIMULATED others to ACTION
9: 2 for I know your readiness of which I boast about you to the Macedonians and your zeal has stirred up most of them!
E. ACCORDING to FAITH
9: 6 Now he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully 10 Now He who supplies seed to the sower will supply and multiply your seed for sowing

II. THE PRIORITY SHOULD BE RESPECTED
**These believers:
A. SURRENDERED their WILL
8: 5 and this is not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord
B. SHARED their WEALTH
1) OVER and ABOVE their tithe
2) Not a CASH offering but a FAITH offering

III. THE PURPOSE SHOULD BE REVEALED
**Paul wanted them to be able to:
A. ABOUND in the GRACE of giving
8: 7 see that you abound in this gracious work also
B. PROVE the SINCERETY of their love
8: 8 I am not speaking this as a command, but as proving. . .the sincerity of your love also!
C. FOLLOW the example of JESUS
8: 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich He became poor, so that you
D. MEET the needs of OTHERS
8: 14 your abundance being a supply for their need!

**The Faith Commitment Offering is:
A. More than YOU can AFFORD
8: 3 For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability they gave . . .
B. AFTER your personal COMMITMENT
8: 5 they first gave themselves to the Lord
C. OPTIONAL but REVEALING
8: 8 I am not speaking this as a command but proving
