3 Paper 1 Section A Questions based on a fiction extract Short, long and extended questions based on the extract’s content, language and structural devices 40 marks

4 Paper 1 Section B Extended writing which either describes or creates a
story 40 marks (16 for accuracy) EITHER: Write a description suggested by this picture: OR: Write the opening part of a story about a place that reminds you of your childhood.

5 Paper 2 section A Questions based on a non-fiction text and a literary non-fiction text Short, long and comparison questions about the texts’ content and language devices 40 marks

6 Paper 2 Section B Extended writing which presents a point of view
40 marks (16 for accuracy) ‘Homework has no value. Some students get it done for them; some don’t do it at all. Students should be relaxing in their free time.’ Write an article for a broadsheet newspaper in which you explain your point of view on this statement.

7 Assessment Objectives
Reading Writing 1: Identify and interpret explicit and implicit information and ideas select and synthesise evidence from different texts. 2: Explain, comment on and analyse how writers use language and structure to achieve effects and influence readers, using relevant subject terminology. 3: Compare writers’ ideas and perspectives, as well as how these are conveyed, across two or more texts. 4: Evaluate texts critically and support this with appropriate textual references. 5: Communicate clearly, effectively and imaginatively, selecting and adapting tone, style and register for different forms, purposes and audiences. Organise information and ideas, using structural and grammatical features to support coherence and cohesion of texts. 6: Use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate spelling and punctuation.
