2. The description of London
London is the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It was founded by the Romans. One of its previous names is Londinium.
London is divided into the City (financial and historical centre) and 32 districts. London's population is 8.6 million people, making it the second largest city in Europe.
The river Thames flows across London. It is a navigable river, which flows into the North Sea. 
London area is about 1580 square meters.
London is one of the world's leading financial centres.

3. Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square was built in the 1830s to commemorate the British navy’s victory over the French-Spanish fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar in It is a remarkable place with tall Nelson`s column surrounded by fountains and lions. A monument of Admiral Nelson rises in the centre of the column. Brave Nelson won the battle and died in it. The square is a popular gathering place for public meetings. To the north-east of Trafalgar Square there is the National Gallery of Art. The Gallery is world-famous and has the largest collection of paintings in the UK. 

4. Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey, a church has been located at Westminster since the 8th century. It lies on the north bank of the Thames. Edward the Confessor rebuilt the abbey in the Norman style in the 11th century. In the 13th century Henry III started building the present abbey. British monarchs have been crowned and buried here since William the Conqueror. Since it was built it has been the place where the coronations of Kings and Queens of England have been held. Today it is still used for the celebration of great events in the country’s history and for regular worship.

5. Big Ben
London Big Ben is the great bell in the Clock Tower on the eastern end of Westminster Palace. In fact, Big Ben is the largest of the six bells of Westminster Palace in London. It is the biggest clock bell in Britain. It weighs 13.5 tons. So the clock looks small from the pavement below the tower. But its face is 23 feet wide. It was named after Sir Benjamin Hall, London’s chief commissioner of works in 1858 when the bell was hung. Sir Benjamin was a big man. One day he said in Parliament, "Shall we call the bell St. Stephen's?" St. Stephen's is the name of the tower. But someone said for a joke, "Why not to call it Big Ben?" Now the bell is known all over the world by that name.

6. The Tower of London
The Tower of London, located on the northern bank of the Thames River, was built in the 11th century. The greatest Tower of London is one of the world’s most famous buildings. This building with 900-years history was previously a royal palace, execution place, prison, jewel house, arsenal and even zoo.
In the early days of the history of England the English kings lived in the Tower. Then it was a prison where many people died, black ravens had much food near the walls of the Tower in those years. The black ravens live in the gardens of the Tower now. The English people like them very much. A man looks after the ravens and gives them meat in the morning and in the evening. Now the Tower of London is a museum and many people from other countries come to see it. They see the dark stone halls with small windows and thick doors. The walls of the Tower are five metres thick. In the museum they can see many old guns. At ten o’clock every evening the guards lock the big doors of the Tower for the night.

7. Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace was built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham. Now Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British sovereign. When the Queen is here, the royal standard flutters over the palace. Buckingham Palace is open to the public during August and September while the queen is on vacation. Its interior contains many elegantly furnished apartments and noted collections of paintings. The ceremony of the Changing of the Guard takes place daily at eleven o'clock in the morning. Every day a large crowd of people gathers to see this famous and traditional ceremony.

8. Tower Bridge
London’s Tower Bridge spans the Thames River from the Tower of London to Southwest on the south side of the Thames. It was the only movable bridge crossing the Thames when it was completed in The bridge was designed by Sir Horace Jones and built by Sir John Wolfe Barry. Tower Bridge commands wide and magnificent views of both the city and the river.

9. Saint Paul’s Cathedral
St Paul's Cathedral is one of the most famous buildings in the world, and it is also one of the greatest survivors! Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London, designed by English architect Christopher Wren in 1675, is one of the most famous churches in England. The cathedral is best known for its impressive dome, which is actually two domes—an inner one and a taller outer one. The inner dome is open in the middle so that light can stream into the cathedral.

10. Double-decker buses
Double-decker buses are a popular form of public transportation in London, where parking can be extremely difficult. Buses are best for sightseeing, especially double-decker buses. On the traditional double-decker there were no doors and passengers leaped up and off the bus and conductor was moving about and collecting fares from the passengers. However, nowadays fares are given directly to the driver.

11. The British Museum
One of the most famous is the British Museum in London, which was established in It’s a museum of human history and culture. Its collections are the largest in the world and originate from all continents.  
First of all, it’s a huge library with 6 or 7 million books, which is considered to be one of the largest in the world.
The British Museum is a scientific institution, known as the Natural History Museum, where internationally important collections are shown. This place inspires people to think about the natural environment differently and to take care of the planet.
Finally, there is a wonderful art gallery in the British Museum housing unique collections of sculpture, ceramics, drawings and paintings. It also has a great collection of Italian drawings.
