1 “Melchizedek – Priest of the Most High God”
Study 4 – “Melchizedek and the Tabernacle of David” Melchizedek – Priest of the Most High God

2 The future Tabernacle of David
Isaiah 16:5 A house of prayer for all nations “And in mercy shall the throne be established: and he shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David, judging, and seeking judgment, and hasting righteousness.”

3 David’s vow – Ps. 132 Written at the removing of the Ark.
V.1-5 – David vows to give the Ark rest. V.6 – David comprehended the rightful place for the Ark while in Bethlehem. While on the run from Saul “in the fields of the woods” he decided its destiny. He found it in Kirjath-jearim = “city of forests” – 2 Chron. 1:4. Perhaps David’s vow elicited Yahweh’s vow – Ps. 110:4. Melchizedek – Priest of the Most High God

4 David and Jerusalem 1 Sam. 17:54 – Why did David take Goliath’s head to Jerusalem? Consider Jerusalem’s obscurity at the time – from Salem (Gen.14) to Josh. 10:1 (Adoni-zedek) was 500 years. Judges 1:8, 21 to 2 Sam. 5:6-9 was 500 years. David takes the Ark to Zion 2 Sam. 6:13-23 – Why not Gibeon? 1 Chron. 21:29. Pitched his own tent – 1 Chron. 15:1; 16:1. Melchizedek – Priest of the Most High God

5 Stephen’s revelation of David’s mission – Acts 7:44-46
V.44 – The Tabernacle of Moses made for Israel. V.45 – Tabernacle of Moses brought into “the possession of the Gentiles” by Joshua. Gentiles driven out by God for 500 years. “unto the days of David” – What changed? David converted Gentiles instead of killing them! Why did David find favour with God? Because of “the tabernacle of David”

6 The Jerusalem Conference – Acts 15:12-19
The term “Gentiles” occurs 7 times in context. James’ astonishing citation of Amos 9:11-15 – context of the Kingdom. Amos 9:7 – Yahweh had brought Philistines into the Land at the same time as Israel – could He not also save them? The Tabernacle of David ends all debate about “uncircumcised” Gentiles - cp. Philistines converted by David. “Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the age.”

7 “But Solomon built him an house”
2 Chron. 2:17-18 – Solomon involved Gentiles in building the Temple – 70,000 (family of nations). (See – RSV – different perspective on v.17.) Acts 7:45-48 (David) desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. But Solomon built him an house. Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands. Solomon’s temple restored Mosaic system. “Then Solomon took a census of all the aliens who were in the land of Israel, after the census of them which David his father had taken.” Elyon

8 The middle wall - Eph. 2:11-15 “Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh...That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law....” Melchizedek – Priest of the Most High God

11 David operates as King-Priest
2 Sam. 6:13-23 – A king-priest after the order of Melchizedek. V.13 – Acknowledged future fulfilment. V.14 – “linen ephod” – Priestly garment - Lev. 8:7; 1 Sam. 22:18; 23:6,9; 30:7. 13 Bro. Thomas – 2 Sam. 23:1-7 “Now these words of David, the last, are an oracle of David, son of Jesse; even an oracle of the mighty man enthroned, concerning an Anointed One of the Elohim of Jacob; and the pleasant theme of Israel’s songs. Yahweh’s spirit spake by me, and His word was upon my tongue; Elohim of Israel spake to me, and the Rock of Israel discoursed, saying, There shall be a ruler over mankind, ruling in the righteous precepts of Elohim. Melchizedek – Priest of the Most High God

14 Bro. Thomas – 2 Sam. 23:1-7 “And as brightness of morning, He shall rise the Sun of an unclouded dawn, shining forth after rain upon tender grass out of the earth. Though my house is not so with Ail, yet He hath appointed for me the Covenant of the Olahm, ordered in everything and sure: truly this is all my salvation, and all my delight, though he cause it not to spring forth.” Melchizedek – Priest of the Most High God

15 Bro. Thomas – 2 Sam. 23:1-7 “But the wicked shall be all of them as a thorn-bush to be thrust away; yet without hand shall they be taken; nevertheless a Man shall smite them.
