4 Warm up Jenny pours 3 glasses of water. The first glass is 3/8 full. The second is 3/4 full. The third is 3/6 full. Which glass has the most water? Explain.

5 Think and write What did you find?
Travel around the room with a partner. Use a white board and list some things that are made up of lines. Remember, lines are straight and never curve. What did you find?

6 Today’s Lesson In this lesson, you will identify, name, and draw points, lines, and planes.  Let’s look at the Envision Video for this lesson and take the quiz.

7 Points - Vocabulary A point is an exact location in space. A point is usually named with one capital letter, for example Point A. There are many points along a line. B C

8 lines A line goes on forever and ever in both directions. There is an arrow on either end of the line. Lines are always straight. Classify these figures as either lines or not lines.

9 Parallel lines Parallel lines are lines that will never meet or cross one another. Look around you! Where do you see examples of parallel lines?

10 Intersecting lines Intersecting lines cross one another at some point.
Perpendicular lines are a type of intersecting lines. When they meet, their corners form perfect right angles, or square corners. Which of the examples above are perpendicular lines?

11 Practice! Look at the map. Name streets that form parallel lines and
intersecting lines.

12 More practice! Look at the pictures. Identify the lines in the picture as parallel or intersecting.
