Benefits of IEEE-SA Standards
Standards are tools of commerce Companies actively participating have a head start on their competitors in adapting to market demands Research risks and development costs are reduced for companies contributing to the standardization process Participation enables companies to anticipate technology standardization, facilitating the progress of product development and technology Leaders in technology should become more involved in standards Standards are a positive stimulus for innovation Standards are internationally respected For more info on these benefits, please visit: The 1991 Annual Report of the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) may have stated it best. “Standards are a vehicle of communication for producers and users. They serve as a common language, defining quality and establishing safety criteria. Costs are lower if procedures are standardized. Training is simplified. And consumers accept products more readily when they can be judged on intrinsic merit.”

Project Management: Standards Committees Assigned to a Program Manager
PM-Provides support with standardization efforts: Serves as a bridge to the IEEE-SA and its standing boards Answers questions about procedures and along with chair, ensures that procedures are followed Keeps you informed New products New services Policy changes Brings your ideas and concerns to the Standards Board and its committees PM is the partner for your standardization efforts. See your staff liaison for guidance on the process. Their job is to • answer your questions on procedures and • ensure that the procedures are followed • find out about policy changes and new services and products The liaison can also serve as a representative for you and bring your ideas and concerns to the Standards Board.

Project Management: Each Project Gets Help During Document Development
Works with the working group technical editor to ensure proper draft development Offers Mandatory Editorial Coordination Provides support through the draft development process Enables efficient pre-approval editing and swift post-approval publication Supplies style templates/electronic text and figures for revisions. Your IEEE Standards Staff Liaison is your main point of contact for standards-related information. Your Staff Liaison keeps you informed about IEEE Standards policy changes, assists you in the stages of the IEEE standards-development process, and advises you to help avoid pitfalls in this process. Each of these items will be discussed in this presentation.
