1 On an new page, miss the top two lines and list …
As many reasons that people disbelieve in God as you can.

2 1.5 Science and Non-Belief in God
Outline why some people do not believe in God Describe the scientific explanations of the origins of the universe. Explain why these scientific theories may lead people not to believe in God Give reasons for your opinion and the alternative point of view.

3 Science and Non-Belief in God
Day 1: The heavens, the earth, light and darkness. Day 2: Heaven/sky Day 3: Dry land, the seas, and vegetation. Day 4: The sun, the moon and the stars. Day 5: Living creatures in the water, birds in the air. Day 6: Land animals and people. Day 7: God "rested".

4 Science and Non-Belief in God

6 Big Bang Theory According to the standard theory, our universe sprang into existence as "singularity" around 13.7 billion years ago. What is a "singularity" and where does it come from? Well, to be honest, we don't know for sure. Singularities are zones which defy our current understanding of physics. They are thought to exist at the core of "black holes." Black holes are areas of intense gravitational pressure. The pressure is thought to be so intense that finite matter is actually squished into infinite density (a mathematical concept which truly boggles the mind). These zones of infinite density are called "singularities." Our universe is thought to have begun as an infinitesimally small, infinitely hot, infinitely dense, something - a singularity. Where did it come from? We don't know. Why did it appear? We don't know. After its initial appearance, it apparently inflated (the "Big Bang"), expanded and cooled, going from very, very small and very, very hot, to the size and temperature of our current universe. It continues to expand and cool to this day and we are inside of it: incredible creatures living on a unique planet, circling a beautiful star clustered together with several hundred billion other stars in a galaxy soaring through the cosmos, all of which is inside of an expanding universe that began as an infinitesimal singularity which appeared out of nowhere for reasons unknown. This is the Big Bang theory. CLIP- radio 4 animation

7 Big Bang Theory - Evidence
It started. We are reasonably certain that the universe had a beginning. Universe is expanding. Galaxies appear to be moving away from us at speeds proportional to their distance. This is called "Hubble's Law," named after Edwin Hubble ( ) who discovered this phenomenon in This observation supports the expansion of the universe and suggests that the universe was once compacted. Evidence of heat remains. If the universe was initially very, very hot as the Big Bang suggests, we should be able to find some remnant of this heat. In 1965, Radio astronomers Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson discovered a degree Kelvin ( degree Fahrenheit, degree Celsius) Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB) which pervades the observable universe. This is thought to be the remnant which scientists were looking for. Penzias and Wilson shared in the 1978 Nobel Prize for Physics for their discovery. The abundance of the "light elements" Hydrogen and Helium found in the observable universe are thought to support the Big Bang model of origins.

8 Science and Non-Belief in God
Read page 13. What is the big bang theory? What evidence supports this theory? The big bang theory suggests that the universe was created by the expansion of the singularity. The singularity is infinitely compressed matter. As the universe expanded it became less dense and cooler which allowed life to begin.

9 Evolution theory Charles Darwin proposed this theory in This theory explains how all the varieties of species could originate from on amoeba. This theory does not require God.

20 Evolution Life started by itself in the form of single celled organisms. Due to mutations, they adapted to form more complex life forms. Through further mutation and survival of the fittest, life forms developed further and adapted to suit their environments.

21 Evolution What is evolution theory
Why is evolution a criticism of the Design Argument. Life started by itself in the form of single celled organisms. Due to mutations, they adapted to form more complex life forms. Through further mutation and survival of the fittest, life forms developed further and adapted to suit their environments.

22 F.R. Tennant He argued that God had created the earth with everything in place so that animal and human life could develop by evolution. Any deviation from the equation would have rendered life on earth impossible. This fine balance shows that creation is deliberate and designed. This designer must have been God.

23 Criticism of Tennant Surely this finely balanced equation is what you would expect to happen as a result of infinite time and space.

24 Plenary Scientific theories of creation mean that we can no longer believe in God. Discuss, showing that you have considered more than one opinion.
