Amy Tan and her mothers relationship always had its up’s and downs, This influenced Amy’s writing because many of her stories were lyrically written tales of emotional conflict between Chinese-American Mothers and Daughters

7 Personal Details Was always worried about her looks because she was a young Chinese girl in an American school At age 8 she was reading a book a day She always felt too smart and didn’t want to stand out She continued to get good grades in math which made her parents push her even more to become a doctor Her Father and brother died from brain tumors in the 1960’s
