2 Map of Northeast and Southeast Woodlands, Great Plains, and Great Basin

3 Comparing the Regions Climates (Similarities)
The Great Plains region is similar to the Great Basin and Southeast Woodlands because in the summer, these regions both get very hot. The Northeast Woodlands , Great Plains, and Great Basin all have cold winters. The Southeast Woodlands and the Northeast Woodlands share a rainy and wet climate.

4 Comparing Regions Climates (Differences)
The Great Plains region is different from the Great Basin, Northeast, Woodlands and Southeast Woodlands because it is the only region that has flash down pours. The Great Basin is different from the Great Plains, Northeast Woodlands, and Southeast Woodlands because it is the only region that doesn’t rain in the winter, Summer, Spring, and Fall. The Northeast Woodlands are different from the Great Plains, Great Basin, and the Southeast Woodlands because it is the only region with humid and hot Summers. The Southeast Woodlands are different from the Great Plains, Great Basin, and the Northeast Woodlands because it is the only region with a mild Winter. The Great Basin, Great Plains, and Northeast Woodlands either have cold, or very cold Winters.

5 Comparing the Land of the Regions (Similarities)
The Great Plains are similar to the Northeast Woodlands and the Southeast Woodlands because both of these regions have rivers in them. The Great Basin is similar to the Southeast Woodlands because they both have mountains. The Northeast Woodlands , Great Basin, and the Southeast Woodlands were similar because these regions had forests.

6 Comparing the Land of the Regions (Differences)
The Great Plains were different from the Great Basin, Northeast Woodlands, and Southeast Woodlands because it was the only region where wild flowers grew. The Great Basin was different from the Northeast Woodlands, Southeast Woodlands, and the Great Plains because it was a very dry region with very little water such as rivers and streams.

7 Comparing the Land of the Regions (Differences)
The Northeast Woodlands was different from the Great Plains, Great Basin, and Southeast Woodlands because it is the only region with lakes in it. The Southeast Woodlands were different from the Great Plains, Great Basin, and Northeast Woodlands because it was the only region with swamplands.

8 Shelter in the Northeast Woodlands
The longhouse was the main shelter in the Northeast Woodlands. It was made by the Iroquois. The frame was built with small trees called saplings and covered with bark. More than one family lived in a longhouse together.

9 Shelter in the Northeast Woodlands
The wigwam was the shelter used by the Algonquin. Unlike the longhouse, only one family lived in a wigwam.

10 Shelter in the Great Basin
The two main shelters in the Great Basin were the wickiup and the round house. The wickiup was made with palm branches. The round house was made of redwood planks.

11 Shelter in the Southeast Woodlands
The main shelter in the Southeast Woodlands was the Chickee. The frame of the Chickee was made of logs and the roof was made with palmetto leaves or grasses.

12 Shelter in the Great Plains
The main shelter in the Great Plains was the teepee. The teepee was made of animal skins and poles. The teepee was light weight and easy to move.

13 The Best Region to Live in Before the Pilgrims Arrived was the Great Plains.

14 The best region for the Native Americans to live in…
The Great Plains Region would be the best region for the Native Americans to live in during the time just before the pilgrims arrived because it would have been easier for them to survive. there is a lot of space for everyone to share ,and hunt. The Great Plains has a perfect amount of rain. It doesn’t rain too much and it doesn’t rain too little. At times, there are flash downpours which only last a few minutes at a time. The rain could be used for cooking, drinking, bathing, and water for their crops. The Native Americans could have dried the crops they grew with the water and saved them for the colder weather. Another reason why the Great Plains would have been the best region for the Native Americans to live in is because there were buffalo and deer to hunt. They could use their fur and skin to make winter clothes. These clothes would keep them warm and protect them from the really cold winters. Lastly, since there’s not a lot of trees in the Great Plains, there is much room to grow crops. They could live off the land they lived on and plant and sell vegetables if they wanted. They could use the money they made off their crops to buy more horses and things they needed for their tribes. In conclusion, the Great Plains is the best region for the Native Americans. Buffalo roam throughout the land for hunting and there is a lot of land to grow crops on. The downpours could give them water that they could store throughout the winter months. The type of weather in the Great Plains would make it easier for them grow good crops in their land and to store food and water to survive the winter. Of all the regions, I think the Great Plains is the best one for the Indians to live in during the time just before the Pilgrims arrived.
