What land form is found between Peru and Bolivia? How is it’s climate? What do the Native Americans here make their livings from? What materials do they use? What do they eat? What are Totora reeds? How have these reeds been used in the past? Today, some Native Americans live on floating islands.

Most South Americans today are descended from Native Americans, Africans, or Europeans. This makes them similar to what other country? South America was colonized mainly by Spain, thus many in South America speak… and are…. However, each country has its own culture.

Regions within South America There are four cultural regions in South America. The first region includes…. These are located in the northern part of South America. They each border the Caribbean Sea, so many of their cultures are similar to the culture of the Caribbean islands.

Which countries are to the south and west? In Bolivia, there are more idigineous people than mestizo. What are the names of these people? The third cultural region consists of what countries? Which country has mountains, beaches, deserts, forests, and polar regions?

Most Chilean people are mestizos. What culture exists on Argentina’s Pampas or plains? What country is South America’s largest country and makes up its fourth region? Who was it a colony of? What type of people live there?

7 Rural and Urban Life Farming in South America
Outside of Chile, Argentina, and Uraguay, most rural people with small plots of land are subsistence farmers? Define subsistence farmers. What do very large farms grow? Define import. Latin America is the fastest-growing region in the world.

8 Rural and Urban Life Like, Mexicans and Central Americans, South Americans cannot find enough jobs in rural areas. Every day, thousands of rural South Americans move to the cities looking for work. Urban Issues What major cities were built by Spanish colonists more than 400 years ago? Some of these buildings have Native American designs.

9 Rural and Urban Life In contrast, modern office blocks and apartment buildings of concrete, steel, and glass tower above the downtown areas. What is the Brazilian capital? When was it constructed? What was it designed to do? How were the slums in South American cities constructed? What are they called in Brazil? In Venezuela?

10 Rural and Urban Life What happens as more and more people move into the cities? What can the governments not provide quick enough?
