Monitors mechanical integrity of turbine section. Also indicates overall engine operating conditions.

Know potential problems and their solutions Hot start= ignition occurs when there is an excessively rich fuel/air mixture Monitor TIT or ITT during start If overtemp occurs shut off fuel immediately Hung start= occurs when engine startup is normal and EGT is normal but the engine fails to accelerate Starter released too soon Battery too weak to reach sufficient starting speed

11 Engine performance Rating Terminology
Takeoff power rating= the amount of power that an aircraft engine is permitted to produce during takeoff Maximum continuous power = the amount of power an engine can be allowed to produce without any time limitations Maximum cruise power = the max power for aircraft cruise speeds-can be same setting as maximum continuous power Cruise power = best fuel economy during flight and extended range

Maximum climb power = used for normal climb to a cruising altitude, no time limitations on this setting Ground idle = lowest engine speed permitted for ground operations (50%-70%) Flight idle = lowest engine speed permitted in flight- often used for descent, approach, and landing (10% above ground idle) Derated Engine = engine power output is intentionally limited to less than the maximum power that engine can produce

Part-throttle engine(flat-rated) = an engine designed to produce takeoff thrust under standard sea-level conditions before the power lever is advanced to the full-throttle position Full-throttle engine = takeoff power is obtained when the power lever is advanced to the full throttle position

15 Abrasive grit blast Used for removing heavy engine contamination
Engine is run while a specific quantity of grit is fed into the engine

16 Jetcal Used for checking RPM, EGT, wire resistance, insulation breaks, and various other instruments depending on Jetcal model.
