4 What are Policy Proposals?
Aimed at the Students’ Union – tell us what to do and focus on (No harm in asking us!) Should be either: To do with something we do/can do To take a stand/principle Lobby or campaign for something Legal (you can’t tell us to set things on fire or rob a bank, for example) Relevant to City Students – either in your School or University-wide

5 How to Write a Proposal It should contain 3 Parts:
This Union Notes - Background This Union Believes - Principles/Motivation This Union Resolves – What do you want to happen

6 Think About… What you actually want to happen
Write your proposal clearly: You will only be able to debate/pass the submitted proposal The SU will be committed to work on the proposal submitted Have a clear title…

7 Debate You will be expected to propose/defend the proposal
Students will not have a chance to ask questions or clarifications Try to be depersonalised and focus on the issue you want to address.

8 Voting Voting will be done by show of hands at the meeting, after a series of speeches. In order to pass an ordinary proposal, a simple majority is needed.
