3. What is Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)?
Emotional and mental health is a state of wellbeing in which we:
Feel good or ok about life most of the time and enjoy some things in life
Feel able to cope with life most of the time
Fulfil our potential and make a contribution
‘Social’ life is our family, friend’s, home life, financial situation etc
World health organisation definition
We live in a complex world
Thinking about your own state of wellbeing now think about how you feel, you will probably have gone through various emotions from getting out of bed to getting here

4. RESILIENCE The ability to ‘bounce back’
Doing well against the odds, coping and recovering.
Children who resist adversity, manage to cope with uncertainty and are able to recover successfully from trauma.
Protective factors to build resilience include good school experiences
Strategy is built on the premise of early intervention and identification
