2 MEEN Engineering Honors (EH)
Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017 ENGR 181H, CHEM 100 Dr. Harry A. Hogan (MEEN EH Dept. Coordinator) Basic Requirements Finding Honors Courses Maintaining EH Eligibility Mechanical Engineering Curriculum

3 Basic Requirements No additional MEEN track requirements currently
EH College-level requirements - highlights 18 Hours of Honors credits in Engr. or Science 12 Hours must be Engineering ENGR 181H (1 SCH) MEEN 491H – Research (4 SCH min., 6 max.) Up to 6 hours of Graduate Courses 3.5 GPA

4 Finding Honors Courses
Stand-alone Honors sections e.g., ENGR 111(201) – 2XX section numbers Not an abundance in engineering, particularly MEEN "Stacked" Honors sections 6 courses Spring 2017 (16 total 20X sections) 6 courses Fall 2016 (15 total 20X sections) Do not do "Honors Contracts" any more You must still ask the Professor to initiate it Contact Professors before registration and/or ASAP after course instructors are posted in Howdy "Deadline" = 1 week before classes

5 Finding Honors Courses
MEEN 491H You must find a Professor to work with Most profs use ….. 3 SCH = 10 hours/week (approx.) UG students can also work on research as paid hourly MEEN 491H is meant for junior or senior year Form must be completed and submitted to Dr. McVay for approval (MEEN Advising Office) MEEN 491 Informational Event – Tues., Mar. 21, 5:00pm, Room 301 MEOB

6 Maintaining EH Eligibility
Meet with "Department Coordinator" once per year At least one "EH Activity" per semester College Level or Department Level Check COE EH "Calendar of Activities" (search web for "tamu engineering honors") Periodic s about events Maintain 3.5 GPA Submit summary report in May each year

7 What do Mechanical Engineers Do?
