Message from Dr. Bruce Haffty, MD, Professor and Chair, Department of Radiation Oncology, Chief of Staff, CINJ The Rutgers-Cancer Institute 4-R Symposium is a one day event held every two years. The theme of this year’s meeting was Precision Radiation Oncology. The meeting was a gathering of thought leaders who are pushing the frontiers of radiation oncology by integrating precision medicine into research and treatment. The overall goal of the meeting was to explore the development of personalized radiation therapy using new advances in genomic- and biology-based biomarkers, in addition to existing clinical and pathologic features, in combination with select drugs targeted to improve patient outcomes. An outstanding faculty of invited experts from institutions around the country presented dynamic talks in three tracks: Biology, Clinical/Translational and Physics. The talks ranged from topics in imaging, and radiomics to DNA damage response and tumor cell plasticity as well as the application of big data to improve radiation therapy treatment. Once again, attendance at the R Symposium exceeded expectations and the venue was at full capacity. It was an exciting day of scientific exchange and networking. We look forward to seeing you in February 2019 at our next Symposium! 2017 4R Symposium: “Precision-Radiation-Oncology”

Rutgers University Department of Radiation Oncology The Rutgers University 4-R Symposium Summary: The symposium provided guests and participants with an overview of the new developments in Precision Radiation Oncology and an opportunity to share with radiation therapy professionals, biologists and physicists, advances and research findings in individualized radiation therapy and its clinical application. The success of this event would not have been possible without the commitment and contributions of invited guests and lecturers, vendor support from Varian Medical Systems, Best Medical and IBA and the team of staff members from the Radiation Oncology Department. Thank you for your support! See you in February 2019! 2017 4R Symposium: “Precision-Radiation-Oncology”
