4 The Touchton Map Library/Florida Center for Cartographic Education
The History Center and USF have partnered on educational programs, exhibits and other initiatives for the past 14 years. The Map Library and Cartographic Center represent a deepening or continuation of that partnership.  The Map Library will be home to more than 6,000 original maps and other documents dating back to the discovery of the New World – truly a unique resource for Florida and the Tampa Bay area. The Touchton Map Library’s partnership with USF will provide access to an additional 10,000 maps housed at USF Libraries. The Touchton Map Library/Florida Center for Cartographic Education will be the only cartographic center in the Southeastern United States, one of only nine in the nation. The Touchton Map Library/Florida Center for Cartographic Education will be among the most comprehensive collections of Florida Cartography anywhere in the world.

12 Charting the Future Campaign
The History Center has launched a fundraising campaign to raise 11 million dollars for this effort. Half of these funds will be used to add on to the building, construct the new exhibit gallery and fund the map library. The other half will be used for the History Center’s operating endowment. For every dollar raised for construction, a dollar will also be raised for the History Center’s endowment fund. Support for the Charting the Future Capital Campaign comes from a wide mix of local, individual supporters and donors, private foundations, Hillsborough County’s Capital Asset Preservation Program and the State of Florida.
