2 Boston Massacre Increasing number of troops being stationed in the Colonies Colonists disliked this- felt like they are being watched Tension- competition for jobs/women, differing ideology & values led to violence March 5th, 1770 Drunken colonists verbally assaulted British soldiers Other Colonists quickly responded to the late night disturbance

3 3. British Captain Thomas Preston and other troops came to the aid of the soldiers
4. Colonists begin throwing ice and snow balls at the troops 5. Shots are fired by British soldiers and 5 colonists are killed 6. Crispus Attucks one of the 5 colonists killed- famous from event

Men acquitted for event, but Colonists use this as motivation - Propaganda- the spread of ideas C. Troops pull out of Boston and are stationed on island in Boston Harbor
