Group support 79 groups supported by Nova and partners Telephone, 1-2-1, training, signposting, visiting groups Subjects covered: setting up, governance, legal status

Membership and Nova Assist Membership led – over 150 – membership is FREE Nova Assist Diagnostic Tool 33 members have accessed this Positive feedback about Nova Assist Quote: Zara’s Foundation: “I wish we’d had this 3 years ago”

7 Volunteering Development
Our aim is to: raise the profile of volunteering throughout Wakefield District improve the capacity of organisations to provide good quality volunteering experiences increase the number of volunteering opportunities

8 Volunteering Development
Group support 16 groups given one-to-one support with volunteering policies and good practice Recruitment via do-it website – helped over 100 groups and over 1000 potential volunteers Helpline via phone/ in the absence of a volunteer centre

Volunteering Forum 60+ members from the third sector, Wakefield Council, NHS, Police and Ambulance Service Quarterly meetings Shared contact list Joint activities Open to volunteer managers in not-for-profit organisations Quarterly meeting for networking, sharing information and best practice, and outside speakers Shared contact list for peer support Joint activities – volunteer promotion events across District at 6 open markets throughout June

870 people engaged in the programme 1300 interventions – mostly short courses 204 people helped into jobs with 91 already sustained for six months Youth Contract Each year 133 young people mentored into education, employment or training It is about the money

17 The Assembly The aim… To link groups and organisations to create a stronger voice for the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector (VCSE) in Wakefield District. Background to The Assembly…3 years ago there was no mechanism for speaking with a cohesive voice in response to changes that the VCS was experiencing. This includes: Financial Cuts New Legislation on tendering – tendering for low lost services Transformation and creation of CGG Introduction of Social Value Act Integration of Health and Social Care

18 The Assembly Objective…
Ensure that local policies and practice take into account the views, needs and assets of the VCSE. Achieved through being invited to attend key partnerships and meeting eg Health and Wellbeing board, 3rd Sector Strategy Group, Integration Exec, Clinical Networks

19 The Assembly Objective…
Two-way link for sharing of information with VCSE colleagues and statutory partners. Online on the Assembly pages of the Nova website, twitter, e-bulletins and at events and meetings. Online discussions

To provide a platform for campaigning and engagement on key issues facing the VCSE. Campaigns previously on Bedroom Tax and Social Value Act. What comes next? Discussion this afternoon to identify issues and discuss themes

21 The Assembly What next…
Establish a core group to lead The Assembly and plan the direction of travel. The Assembly Officer (Angela Davies) at Nova is co-ordinating this work with The Assembly Chair (Paula Bee). Meeting taking place on 13 October – Angela Davies, Emily Castle, Stan Foster, Alison Haskins, Mike Holt, Shona Walsh, Nichola Esmond, Paula Bee, Liz Halliday, Hilary Shockett
