1 Photosynthesis

2 What would these make/produce?
Ingredients YUM!!! What would these make/produce?

3 Ingredients What you make Reactants Products
Reactants are like the ingredients. They are the things you need to start the reaction Products are what you produce or end up with Ingredients What you make Reactants Products

4 What do we need to keep a plant alive?

5 Reactants Products Oxygen Light Carbon Dioxide Water Glucose
What do we need to keep a plant alive? Reactants Products Water Light Oxygen Carbon Dioxide Glucose Sunlight (energy) 6CO2 + 6H C6H O2

6 Diffusion is the mechanism that the gases enter and exit the leaf.
Stoma or Stomata Kind of like the lungs of a leaf Gas exchange Water Vapor leaves Opposite of us! Carbon Dioxide comes in Oxygen leaves Diffusion is the mechanism that the gases enter and exit the leaf. H L Guard Cells

7 Mainly located on bottom of leaf.
Stoma or Stomata Mainly located on bottom of leaf.

8 Long tubes of dead cells. Looks like a straw.
Vascular Tissue The veins of the leaf Xylem Carries water up the plant (from the roots). Enters Root hairs through Osmosis. Long tubes of dead cells. Looks like a straw.

9 -Water vapor escapes through Stomata.
Transpiration  is essentially evaporation of water from plant leaves. (Plant Sweat) Fun Fact: Studies have revealed that about 10 percent of the moisture found in the atmosphere is released by plants through transpiration -Water vapor escapes through Stomata. -This creates a suction pressure in the plant which pulls water from the roots up the xylem to the leaves.

10 Carries sugar (Sucrose) down the plant (from the leaves)
Vascular Tissue cont… Phloem Carries sugar (Sucrose) down the plant (from the leaves) Xylem Phloem

11 Sunlight is captured by chlorophyll
Chlorophyll is a pigment that is made of the element Magnesium and reflects green light. Sunlight is captured by chlorophyll Radiant energy for the reaction Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast

12 Folded to make more surface area Enzymes and Chloroplast DNA
Chlorophyll here Enzymes and Chloroplast DNA

13 Cuticle Upper Epidermis Vascular Bundle Palisade Mesophyll Xylem Phloem Spongy Mesophyll Lower Epidermis Stomata (Guard cells)

14 Stored by the plant in the form of Starch
Product: Glucose (chemical energy) Carbohydrate Monosaccharide Can be used by the plant for energy OR Polysaccharide Stored by the plant in the form of Starch

15 Since plants make this glucose (food) they are called Producers or Autotrophs
Heat 10%
