Roles and access levels

6 Criteria of Moodle Development (1)
The demonstration prototype must be populated with users, some of whom are registered on modules 40 students, 10 students in each campus 35 students registered on module A (delivered in UK and three overseas campuses)

7 Criteria of Moodle Development (2)
23 students registered on module B (delivered in UK and three overseas campuses) Some students are registered on both modules 1 moderator (UK) registered on both modules 8 non-editing teachers, 2 in each campus (registered on the module in the UK and overseas campuses)

2 module leaders (UK), 1 registered as editing teacher for each module 1 module leader can edit both module A & B 1 module leader can edit module A only 1 module creator (UK) 1 Studynet administrator (UK)

9 Role and Access levels (7 generic roles)
The Studynet administrator Customization of the Studynet instance Editing of standard roles Adding and removal of additional features and plug-ins Creation, management and deletion of user accounts Imports student and staff lists Assign student and staff to the modules

12 The Module Leader (A teacher with editing rights)
This role cannot create modules Can configure and manage modules (content, assignments, general module information, plagiarism check) Can create grading methods (Rubrics) Creation and management of reports Can hide and unhide (show) content and module features Publish grades across the module.

13 (Teachers without editing rights)
Can view existing module content Upload and remove their own additional learning resources Grade assignments Use existing rubrics Communicate with students (feedback, commentary, annotations, s and blogs) Can publish the grades of the assignments

14 The Moderator (Guest role)
Can view all module resources, assignments, graded submissions, reports and communications Cannot edit anything and cannot see hidden items Cannot communicate with students Able to leave comments for the module leader, but cannot be seen by students or other teachers

15 Students Can view the module content, annotate and comment by publically for other students of the module Can upload and re-upload assignments and participate in tests and quizzes Can see their own grades and test results Can communicate with other students, editing and non-editing teachers, programme managers and Studynet administrators Cannot communicate with module creators and moderators cannot be switched off Other communication feature can be hidden by the module leader Students can share files and documents with other students.

23 Teacher’s Rights The module leader is a teacher with editing rights.
Academics teaching on a module are teachers without editing rights.

24 The module leader He or she can configure and manage modules and their features, create and manage content, assignments, general module information and the plagiarism check. The teacher with editing rights can create grading methods including rubrics and other grading related rights such as creation and management of reports.

26 Academics teaching They can view existing module content, upload and remove their own additional learning resources, grade assignments, use existing rubrics and communicate with students in a variety of forms such as feedback, commentary, annotations, s and blogs. This role can publish the grades of the assignments he or she graded.
