6 Moving from improvement to monitoring
We are working to achieve greater clarity that: Sector leads on improvement Government intervenes Ofsted inspects and monitors Clear strategic intent to monitor inadequate authorities Add presentation title to master slide | 6

7 Consultation 28 June we will launch a consultation on the future of social care inspections. This consultation will seek views on three areas: A common inspection framework for social care establishments and agencies A revised approach to inspecting independent fostering agencies (this will be integrated into the common inspection framework) A new model for inspecting local authority children’s services Add presentation title to master slide | 7

8 Proposals for a social care common inspection framework

9 Background We have already committed to streamlining and standardising frameworks wherever possible Common inspection framework (Education, skills and early years) implemented in 2015 Currently there are fourteen distinct social care inspection frameworks, each with its accompanying guidance We are confident the benefits will include making sense to stakeholders, including children and families, bringing commonality into our expectations on inspection wherever we can e.g. children living away from home.

Inspections should: Focus on the things that matter most to children’s lives Be consistent in their expectations of providers Focus on services that are not yet good

12 Future of inspection Continued focus on practice.
Risk-based and proportionate. Rigorous focus on progress and experiences across all of our inspection frameworks. The role of self-evaluation. The importance of leadership and practice leadership. Responsive to the changing landscape.

13 Future of inspection: local authorities
Menu of options to include: universal; joint; targeted/modular and thematic inspection. Short, sharp and focused: usually inspection limited to a single week’s fieldwork. Time over the coming months to plan and explore scope, frequency, judgements, reporting etc. The ‘menu’ will include a focus on the protection of children and children looked after. 11 week consultation 28 June – mid-September
