DAVIS, a former member of the former St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, and a member of our Parish Family, who died Sunday, January 11, and was buried from our Church Friday, January 16. May Mary, Mother of Our Savior, comfort Mary’s family and friends. ********************************************************************************************************** THE WEEKLY CALENDAR: All the earth shall bow down before you, O God,/ and shall sing to you,/ shall sing to your name, O Most High! SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, JANUARY 18 – SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: 8:00 AM and 10:15 AM. THE FAMILY PRAYER CHALICE FOR VOCATIONS (FPC): Jesus told us to ask the Harvest Master to send laborers into his harvest. May the prayers of our participating families bear fruit. Thanks to ALICIA POSLOSKY KYLE (10:30 AM) for hosting the FPC for Vocations this week. Please sign up in Church. FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: Jesus’ question in today’s gospel is still valid today: “What are you looking for?” What do you want from your spouse, children or parents? Families are populated with imperfect people. To expect perfection is unreal. To expect and accept imperfection is wisdom. PRO-LIFE REFLECTION: The war on the unborn is never-ending. In the first century it was stated: The difference between the way of life and the way of death is great. Therefore, do not murder a child by abortion or kill a newborn infant. In 1973 America decriminalized abortion and perfected the methods of killing the unborn. Pray to end abortion and euthanasia. STEWARDSHIP: “Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, ‘What are you looking for?’” – John 1:38. What are you looking for? Are you wasting your time looking for the material comforts of the world? Or, is your heart longing for something deeper that can only be found by spending time with God? Take time, each day, in silence and ask the Lord what it is that He wants you to do. LAST WEEK YOU CONTRIBUTED: Sunday: $3,379; Fuel: $604; Expenses: $7, Thank you for your generosity! N.B.: Without our savings and the profits from our fundraising, our parish could not meet its expenses! SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 18, 2015 “I have waited, waited for the Lord.” In our yearning, John the Baptist sends us to the Lamb of God. Jesus looks at us and addresses us with a breathtaking question, “What are you looking for?” Christ’s first words call us to search our desires. For Jesus draws us to himself through the longings of our heart. The Lord once said to Saint Catherine of Siena, “I who am infinite God want you to serve me with what is infinite, and you have nothing infinite except your soul’s love and desire.” “You are not your own”; God’s law/desire has been placed within our heart. To do his will is our delight. The Son of God says to us now what Samuel once said to Eli: “Here I am.” Young Samuel is acutely sensitive to the voice that calls him in the temple. As soon as the living God pronounces his name, the child awakens, attentive to the Presence. Through the instruction of Eli, he is open to recognize and to name the One who speaks. Something similar happens the first time Jesus meets some of his future disciples. Jesus is walking on the banks of the Jordan. On the testimony of the Baptist who points him out, two men begin to look for him, attentive to his word, “Come and see.” There is no constraint. Jesus invites them to walk freely toward the truth. // Of the two disciples who follow Jesus, only Andrew is named. We are left to guess that the other is the beloved disciple. But behind his anonymity he is each of us, called in the same way to recognize the Lord. 0. Please support your parish on a consistent basis! FRATERNAL CHARITY: ST.
