4. Oceans and seas cover more than half of the Earth’s surface
Oceans and seas cover more than half of the Earth’s surface. Many different plants and creatures live in them. The deepest part of the sea is the Marianna Trench in the Pacific Ocean. It is 11 km deep. There are many coral reefs in the tropical seas.

8. Blue Whales
Blue whales are the largest animals in the world. They are 30 meters long and weigh 125 tons. They can stay under water for 50 minutes.

9. Dolphins
Dolphins are mammals. They nurse their kids with milk from their mothers.
There are 41 species of dolphins (36 oceanic and 5 fresh water dolphins).
Dolphins are social creatures : they live in groups of 10 to 12 individuals.
Dolphins have very developed senses, including echolocation.

10. Great White Sharks
Great white sharks are very large in size. Some sharks are 18 metres long and weigh up to 42 tons. They live as long as 70 years or more. They are very dangerous. They can swim fast and have sharp teeth and strong jaws.

11. Sea Turtles
Turtles live in the shallow coastal waters. Females lay their eggs in the sand. Baby turtles incubate for days and hatch. Newly hatched turtles travel from their nests on the shore to the water.

12. Rays
Rays are extremely flat but closely related to the sharks. Young rays look very much like young sharks. Most rays live at the bottom of the sea. Only a few species live in the open sea or in freshwater. No ray is dangerous to men.

13. Jellyfish
There are a lot of types of jellyfish in the seas. Jellyfish are soft free-swimming aquatic animals with an umbrella-shaped bell and trailing tentacles. Some of them are poisonous.

14. An Octopus
An octopus is a sea mollusc. It has two eyes and four pairs of arms. It has no skeleton. Octopuses live in different regions of the ocean, including  coral reefs and ocean bottom. They have numerous strategies for defending themselves against predators, including the expulsion of ink and the use of camouflage.
