12 EHCP/High Needs learners
All are expected to have an external w/exp but sustainable placements are problematic and employers can focus upon disability rather than ability. It needs a different approach. Taken from the ‘Strategic Management and Inclusion; a resource for senior leaders’ by The Education & Training Foundation; Sourcing work placement and apprenticeships – Paper 5

13 EHCP/High Needs learners
Consider specialist learning curriculum area and the main stream curriculum. What do you have in place? What is working? What isn’t working? What are you thinking about doing but haven’t actioned yet?

14 EHCP/High needs (specialist & main stream)
Suggestions: EHCP costing Specialist work placement officers /Job coaches Employer Secure places appropriate for needs of learners Identify employers with a community involvement ethos Maintain good relationship with employers Increased regular contact with employer and learner Increased time spent in preparation & monitoring with the employer Provide guidance to managers and shop floor staff to ensure all feel supported Learner Focus upon what the learner is able to action; openness about learners needs Responsible, with curriculum, for all SEN learners being placed Support in the role until learner feels able to work independently Parent involvement; support for travel etc Agreement about the activity and daily structure between employer, specialist placement officer and learner. Regular meetings with ALS to ensure success Report On Work Experience including High Needs/EHCP placement
