4 Arabic-speaking Countries
Algeria, Chad, Morocco, Sudan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Syria, Tunisia, Somalia, United Arab Emirates, Libya, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestinian territories, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Djibouti, and Comoros.

5 Analyzing Photographs
You will examine four photographs and complete the Analyzing Photographs Activity Sheet.

6 Geography of Arabic-Speaking Cultures
In your pairs, look up the country assigned to you. You may use Google Earth to take a closer look at some of the cities and landscapes within that country. Figure out what countries border your assigned country and what the capital is. Be prepared to share an interesting fact about your country with the class.

7 The Arab World The Arab world is considered to be the area that encompasses the region from the Atlantic Ocean near Northern Africa east to the Arabian Sea. Its northern boundary is at the Mediterranean Sea, while the southern portion extends to the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean.

8 UNESCO identifies 21 Arab states, while other sources list 23.
In addition, the Arab League is a regional organization of these states that was formed in It currently has 22 members.

9 Journal Choose one the Arabic-speaking countries we have looked at today and research a current event that has happened within that country. Summarize the article (and tell me WHERE YOU FOUND IT).
