11 Online Communities  A group of people (a virtual community) with something in common, which could include shared interests, experiences, ideals, goals, or profiles; and they interact primarily via the Internet. Communities are often based on proximity. Every blog, business, blogger, organization and individual that is active on the Web has an online community and often is part of more than one.

12 Online Communities An online community can act as an information system where members can post, comment on discussions, give advice, or collaborate. People can communicate through social networking sites, chat rooms, forums, lists, and discussion boards. People may also join online communities through video games, blogs, and virtual worlds.

Electronic communication is not without problems. The most common problem is a lost Internet connection.

16 Lost Internet Connection
To take advantage of the communication options you must be connected to the Internet. Sometimes you might lose your Internet connection, but Windows includes a troubleshooter for a lost connection. If the troubleshooter does not fix problem, you may need to contact your Internet Service Provider.

Service provider’s connection could be down. Often, waiting a few minutes to send or receive messages solves the problem.

The size of the attachment might be the problem. The virus software may detect issues with an attachment. Issue could be with the type of message—advertising or unrecognizable documents.

26 Guidelines for One subject per message; ALWAYS USE A SUBJECT LINE! Message needs to be correct, concise, and clear. Use paragraphs and good grammar. Maintain goodwill of recipient. When replying, only include enough of the original message to make sense. Remember common courtesies like “Please” and “Thank you.” What would your reaction be to the message?
