Governing Body
The GB is responsible for the Constitution of the Church in Wales, ie its rules and regulations.

Under the terms of the Charity Commission parishes are not allowed to own property – all our buildings are owned on our behalf by the RB, hence representative body. The Church in Wales holds assets in trust on behalf of the Archbishop, Bishops, Clergy and Laity of the Church in Wales –some 1,500 churches, 650 parsonage houses and around £370 million of investments.

Representative Body
The Church’s reserves stem from its original £1m, and major fund raising activities in the 1920s and 1950s. The RB has always pursued a cautious investments strategy, allowing it to avoid many of the worst financial disasters, eg dot-com bust.
One-third of the total assets forms the Clergy Pension Scheme, and the income from the remaining assets is used to support the mission and ministry of all the dioceses.

Each DBF receives an annual grant from the RB to pay its clergy; any shortfall would need to be made up by the diocese.
The normal stipend for clergy is about £23k, but there are substantial on-costs for training, housing, pensions, administrative functions etc.
The total cost of maintaining ministry in this diocese is in the region of £40k per year.

The Diocese is divided geographically into three Archdeaconries: Llandaff (Cardiff and some of the Vale), Margam (Bridgend, Port Talbot, Neath and connected valleys), and Morgannwg (the other valley communities).

The Diocese
The Archdeaconries are further sub-divided into Deaneries, of which there are now 11 in total.
Our Deanery is Bridgend, and our current Area Dean is Canon Michael Komor.
The Area Dean performs certain administrative, collaborative, strategic and communication functions in the Deanery, but has no jurisdiction over any parishes except in times of interregnum / sickness / absence.

Each Diocese has a Conference at least once a year.
Each Deanery has a Conference at least once a year.
Both of these theoretically can feed motions up to GB level.
