1 Welcome to the Workshop on IoT & Cloud Computing The Coexistence
Hosted by LOGANATHAN V

2 Topics for the Presentation
Embedded Systems Internet of Things Cloud Computing How to connect Things to Cloud About ISM UNIV

3 INTRODUCTION TO EMBEDDED SYSTEMS

4 What is embedded system
Any CPU based system other than general purpose computers are referred as embedded Systems. Embedded Systems are specific purpose computers, which performs a well defined single task.

5 Industrial Automation
Embedded Devices Voice-over IP Devices Gateways Thin Clients Set-Top Boxes Digital Audio Receivers and Players Mobile Handhelds Medical Devices Industrial Automation Smart Displays

6 Why Embedded system There are Environments where the general purpose computers system are not really getting into the act For example: AC has a temperature control sub-system It is not viable to use a PC’s there for achieving task

7 Characteristics of Embedded system
Designed to run a specific program all the time. There exist no second program to be loaded. Real-time & Reactive Constrained System Constrains such as Memory Performance Throughput Response time Size Cost etc..

8 Applications of embedded system
Telecommunication Cable modem , LAN cards , Bridges , Routers , Gateways , Cell Base-station etc… Defense RADAR Control , SONAR control , Mobile Radio , Missile Launchers/ Trackers / Trappers , Guided missiles , Aircraft controls etc… Consumer Electronics Washing machine , Microwave oven , Cell phone,Video Game Player , Digital camera etc… ROBATICS Pick-Place , CNC machine , Plotter , Printer , IC Fabricator etc..

9 Wireless Communication
Cell Phones , SDR , PDA’s , BT devices , Wi-fi , Wi-max , Zigbee , etc…. Hand held computers Simputers , PDA’s , Tabs, Field Instrumentation DVM , Hand held Oscilloscopes , Cable tester etc…. Biomedical Systems X-Ray control unit , ECG machine , Blood sampler , PMS, etc….. Continue…

37 What is CLOUD The term Cloud refers to a Network or Internet. In other words, we can say that Cloud is something, which is present at remote location. Cloud can provide services over network, i.e., on public networks or on private networks, i.e., WAN, LAN or VPN. Applications such as , web conferencing, customer relationship management (CRM),all run in cloud.

38 Computing History

39 What is CLOUD COMPUTING
Cloud Computing refers to manipulating, configuring, and accessing the applications online. It offers online data storage, infrastructure and application. We need not to install a piece of software on our local PC and this is how the cloud computing overcomes platform dependency issues. Hence, the Cloud Computing is making our business application mobile and collaborative.

40 Some Commercial Cloud Offerings

41 Deployment Model

42 PUBLIC CLOUD The Public Cloud allows systems and services to be easily accessible to the general public. Public cloud may be less secure because of its openness, e.g., .

43 PRIVATE CLOUD The Private Cloud allows systems and services to be accessible within an organization. It offers increased security because of its private nature.

44 COMMUNITY CLOUD The Community Cloud allows systems and services to be accessible by group of organizations.

45 HYBRID CLOUD The Hybrid Cloud is mixture of public and private cloud. However, the critical activities are performed using private cloud while the non-critical activities are performed using public cloud.
