2 Putting Dues $$ Back in Your Pocket:
Membership Benefits at the Local Level Session Focus: Helping members save money using their membership at the local level

3 NEA/ISTA Member Benefits
Our state and national memberships provide us with a lot of perks, but many of them don’t feel tangible. Many of these perks are used for special occasions like vacations, buying a car, buying a home, etc. Also, some members may be deterred from these perks because they are housed online.

4 CREATING Local Deals... Creating membership benefits at the local level creates more buy-in because they are deals that can be used frequently. In order to do this, you have to think about your community: What are their needs, wants, values, daily activities, etc? Then you start looking for deals!

5 My Action Plan: Discount Cards
We all have seen or even purchased discount cards from school teams that have discounts at various places around our community. I realized that our local should have the same type of deals! I made a list of possible restaurants, retailers, companies, etc that are popular in my community. I really focused on family-owned businesses I ed, called, or had face-to-face meetings with the owners to discuss possible discounts or free items that our members could receive I created a two-year contract for each owner to sign.

7 Other ideas... Activities: I organized a sand volleyball league that is for our township employees only. We offered a discounted price to members. They also received coupons for each week to use at the concession stand. Taxes: I called several independently owned accounting offices to negotiate prices for filing taxes. Many of the local offices gave discounted prices. Newsletters/Prize Drawings: I create monthly newsletters that highlight membership perks from our ISTA/NEA websites. In these newsletters, I also give out random gift cards that I have received as donations OR we have purchased with our budget. s: I sent out a couple of s each month with links to various promotions: NEA articles on teaching, scholarship information, or other temporary deals.
