3 What is the purpose of orientation?
To review and verify that you understand your responsibilities as F-1 students regarding… USCIS/SEVIS Excel English Institute International Student Advisors To answer any questions you might have about your experience at Excel English Institute.

4 Requirements

5 Excel English Institute requires all students to…
Maintain good academic standing with an average grade of 70% or better in all courses. Meet all financial obligations to the institute. If problems arise, talk to your Advisor before your student record is affected. Maintain 80% attendance for each 4-week session. Follow the student code of conduct while on the campus at all times

6 Academic Progress International students are required to make significant progress in their studies in order to maintain their status. Your Advisor will meet with you to make sure you are making progress according to your I-20 end date.

Payment You can pay by check, debit or credit card, travelers check, money order, bank wire transfer, online or cash. Friday prior the upcoming session Monday week 1 (new session) Thursday week 1 (new session) Payment due. Students will be reminded about unpaid balances. Students who have not paid will be de-enrolled and not allowed in class on Thursday. Students not re-enrolled will have their I-20s terminated for unauthorized early withdrawal.

Health Insurance In the United States, when we are sick, we usually visit a doctor. We go to the hospital only for serious emergencies. This can be very costly, so we highly advise you to have health insurance. Hospital Doctor’s Office

Visa FROM: USA government PURPOSE: To help you enter the USA and not why you are in the USA WHEN TO GET A NEW VISA: Only if your visa has expired while you are outside the USA will you need to go to the nearest US embassy and request another visa to re-enter the USA

F1 Student Visa Rules It is your responsibility to stay in legal status. You should know how to read your immigration documents. Carefully read all correspondence from the office. It is important.

Rule #1: You must attend class While studying English at Excel: Students are required to attend 18 hours of class per week. Too many absences = de-enrolled from school Stopping studies in the middle of the session = I-20 termination = 15 days to leave the USA

Rule #2: You must make progress toward graduation. You must have a plan to take all the required classes in each level in order to make progress toward graduation.

FROM: Excel English Institute PURPOSE: Tells how long you plan to study at Excel HOW TO GET A NEW I- 20: You must request a new I- 20 and provide new financial documents to the Excel admissions office BEFORE your I-20 expires

17 If you plan to leave and return to the USA to study at Excel:
You must have the signature of either Cindy Gordon or Mallous Rohani on Page #2 of your I-20.

18 Please see your F1 Student Manual for a list of other documents to have with you if you travel outside the USA.

Rule #4: IF YOU CHANGE YOUR NAME OR YOUR ADDRESS: You must tell the admissions office no more than 10 days after you make the change.

20 Rule #5: You must tell us your plans for the next session. HOW: By completing an enrollment form for the next session (during Week 4 of each session) WHEN: Before the next session begins

22 After you have been a student for 6 consecutive months.
OPTION 2: Taking a Vacation WHEN: After you have been a student for 6 consecutive months. WHAT IF I NEED AN EARLIER VACATION? This is a possibility only if you plan to leave the USA. Talk to the admissions officer for details.

23 Apply to your new school. Fill out the Transfer-Out form
OPTION 3: Request to Transfer HOW TO TRANSFER: Apply to your new school. Fill out the Transfer-Out form Get an acceptance letter from your new school Excel will transfer your SEVIS record to the new school. The new school will make a new I-20 for you.

24 Deadlines (after your last day of class)
You must attend the very next session available at your new school after your SEVIS record is transferred. 14 Days: If you’ve not yet graduated or your I-20 has not yet ended, you must show proof that you’re actively working to transfer, or we will terminate your I-20. 60 Days: Your SEVIS record must be transferred to the new school. 5 Months: You must start classes at your new school.

25 OPTION 4: Leave the USA If you leave the USA BEFORE the program end date on your I-20 or BEFORE graduation: If you leave the USA AFTER the program end date on your I-20 or AFTER graduation: Your I-20 will be terminated (Friday of the first week of the next session) You must leave the USA within 15 days of your I-20 termination (29 days after your last day of class) You must leave the USA within 60 days of your last day at Excel

26 Failure to follow the rules can result
in the termination of your student visa status. Please do not let this happen to you.

You can request it from the admissions office. OR you can click the “Lost Password” link on the login page to have the password ed to you.

33 Getting a Driver’s License
your Student Manual explains how to get a driver license. If you plan to get your Driver’s License, please notify Mallous Rohani so she can register you in SEVIS early. If you have not been registered in SEVIS yet, you will not be able to get a license.
