PRESENTED BY: Group Number: 5 ROLL NUMBERS: HR052-HR068

2 APPLE Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Cupertino, California, that designs, develops, and sells consumer electronics, computer software, and online services. Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne on April 1, 1976, to develop and sell personal computers. Apple is the world's largest information technology company by revenue, the world's largest technology company by total assets, and the world's second-largest mobile phone manufacturer. The company is currently ranked at 15 in Fortune Global 500 list.

3 Vision Statement “We believe that we are on the face of the earth to make great products and that’s not changing. We are constantly focusing on innovating. We believe in the simple not the complex. We believe that we need to own and control the primary technologies behind the products that we make, and participate only in markets where we can make a significant contribution. We believe in saying no to thousands of projects, so that we can really focus on the few that are truly important and meaningful to us. We believe in deep collaboration and cross-pollination of our groups, which allow us to innovate in a way that others cannot. And frankly, we don’t settle for anything less than excellence in every group in the company, and we have the self- honesty to admit when we’re wrong and the courage to change. And I think regardless of who is in what job those values are so embedded in this company that Apple will do extremely well.” – TIM COOK, CEO

4 IMPACT Apple’s vision statement is considerably detailed and reflects the company’s comprehensive approach in ensuring continued growth and success. For instance, the vision statement enumerates a number of major points, such as the emphasis on innovation, which directly relates with Apple’s rapid innovation strategy In addition, the vision statement specifies simplicity, which is also an integral aspect of the company’s approach to product design and development. Apple is known for user-friendly and easy-to-use products that help improve daily activities. For instance, the simplicity of the design of iPhone and iOS make it easy to communicate, use apps, and access the Internet. Also, even organizational culture is included in this vision statement. Apple highlights employees’ collaboration and excellence as keys to its business. This detailed vision statement is quite comprehensive in addressing the different aspects of Apple’s business. It effectively shows the holistic approach of the company’s leaders.

5 Mission Statement “Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store. Apple has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App store, and is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices with iPad.”

6 IMPACT Apple’s mission statement is very specific in indicating what the company does and will do. Details about certain product lines are included to show the firm’s current condition. The mission statement mentions Macs, OS X, iLife, iWork, and others The mission statement includes details about what Apple intends to do in its various businesses. For example, the firm states that it is “defining the future of mobile media and computing devices.” This part of the mission statement shows that Apple plans to continue focusing its research and development on mobile devices and related media However, the mission statement is quite narrow in representing possibilities for Apple, which is currently in the best position to explore a wider variety of options

7 Google’s mission is “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.” Google’s vision statement is “to provide access to the world’s information in one click.”

8 Focus on the user and all else will follow
Fast is better than slow Understand that people’s time is valuable Goal to have people leave the website as quickly as possible Average response time on a search result is a fraction of a second Keep speed in mind with every new product release Democracy on the web works Rely on usage data to determine which site is better Patented PageRank algorithm analyses which sites have been ‘voted’ to be best sources of information by other pages across the web Active in open source software development, where innovation takes place through collective effort of many programmers You don’t need to be at your desk to need an answer Pioneering new technologies and offering new solutions for mobile services Help people all over the globe to do any number of tasks on their phone, from checking and calendar events to watching videos Developers of Android, a free, open source mobile platform which brings the openness that shaped the Internet to the mobile world Focus on the user and all else will follow. Focus on the user and all else will follow Homepage interface is clear and simple Pages load instantly Placement in search results is not sold to anyone Advertising offers relevant content and is not distracting It’s best to do one thing really, really well World’s best search engine Dedicated research group focussed on improving search Hope to bring power of search to unexplored areas Aim to help people access and use information You don’t need to be at your desk to need an answer. It’s best to do one thing really, really well. Democracy on the web works. Fast is better than slow.

9 The need for information crosses all borders
Mission to facilitate access to information for the entire world, and in every language Offices in more than 60 countries, maintaining more than 180 Internet domains Google’s search interface is available in more than 130 languages, allowing people to restrict results to their own language The translation tools help people discover content written on the other side of the world in languages they don’t speak You can make money without doing evil Technologies like AdWords and AdSense deliver relevant ads Set of guiding principles for advertising programs and practices Ads not allowed to be displayed on results pages unless they are relevant where they are shown Belief that advertising can be effective without being flashy. Pop–up advertising is not accepted, which interferes with the ability to see the requested content Advertising on Google is always clearly identified as a “Sponsored Link” Rankings are never manipulated to put partners higher in the search results and no one can buy better PageRank There’s always more information out there Endlessly ongoing effort to make new information available which was earlier not readily accessible Integration of new databases into the search like phone numbers, address lookup and business directory Efforts made to enable search of news archives, patents, academic journals, images and books You can be serious without a suit Google was built around the idea that work should be challenging, and the challenge should be fun Belief that great, creative things are more likely to happen with the right company culture Emphasis on team achievements and pride in individual accomplishments The employees are energetic, passionate people from diverse backgrounds with creative approaches to work, play and life As new ideas emerge in a café line, at a team meeting or at the gym, they are traded, tested and put into practice with dizzying speed Great just isn’t good enough “Being great at something is a starting point, not an endpoint” Unachievable goals are knowingly set so that by stretching to meet them one can get further than expected Aim to take things that work well and improve upon them in unexpected ways through innovation and iteration For example, when one of the engineers saw that search worked well for properly spelled words, he wondered about how it handled typos. That led him to create an intuitive and more helpful spell checker Google believes that even if we don’t know exactly what we’re looking for, finding an answer on the web is their problem, not ours Anticipate needs not yet articulated by the global audience, and meet them with products and services that set new standards, for eg. Gmail had more storage space than any other service at the time of its launch Constant dissatisfaction with the way things are becomes the driving force behind everything done at Google You can make money without doing evil. Great just isn’t good enough. There’s always more information out there. You can be serious without a suit. The need for information crosses all borders.
