Do Now: Read primary sources on the what to take worksheet. Identify at least 5 supplies the pioneers felt were important for their journeys. Identify at least 2 challenges the pioneers faced.
using information from the primary sources identify the key supplies the pioneers needed or challenges they faced .
Pack a wagon for a solo trip on the Oregon trail.
Exit ticket: On a post it note list two items you consider “must haves” for the trip
Homework: E.Q. sheets due March 21.
Finish individual pack the wagon worksheet if not done in class.

3. “What to take” Primary Source Review
Each row is assigned a pioneer re-read the pioneers story and make short notes on the following.
What were supplies that they believed were most valuable? If no supplies were mentioned what can you infer about how the settlers believed they should pack for the trip?
What major challenges did pioneers fear they would face on the journey west?
Each pair will have thirty seconds to share what they learned.

4. Things to consider as you prepare to pack
Based in pioneer experiences what would be the most important things you would take, and why do you consider them the most important?
Which of these would bother you the most? Why?
Being hungry
Being cold and wet
Not having favorite and meaningful personal belongings
Not feeling safe
Being stranded
Take a minute to consider your answer

5. Pack the wagon
Pack a wagon with the vital supplies listed on the worksheet as if you were going on your own.
Work Independently
Keep in mind you have a five month journey to Oregon.
Can take only 2,400 lbs due to strain on animals.

6. Exit ticket
Select four supplies from your wagon that you views as “must haves” for the trip and give me two reasons why you think a person needs this item.
Put your answers on a post it note and place it on the period cabnet.
