1 Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation Alliance (ABIRA)
Dr Nicola Hancock Lecturer & Other ABIRA UEA team members: Professor Valerie Pomeroy Dr Celia Clarke Dr Kath Mares Dr Michael Grey Dr Leif Johannsen Dr Simon Horton Dr Ciara Shiggins Dr Fergus Gracey Dr Stephanie Rossit Elizabeth Chandler ….and multiple collaborators

2 Novel research methodology Personalising rehabilitation
What do we do? Novel research methodology Use sensitive measures of the biological mechanisms underlying behaviour Determine how rehabilitation therapy works for the individual Aid clinicians to make decisions for individuals and to target therapy Personalising rehabilitation Using our technologies to target appropriate therapies For example, to find the correct “dose” of Physiotherapy

3 Evidenced-based algorithms to aid clinical decision-making
Novel neuroscience-based co-designed technology The ALLEX Board: ankle rehabilitation FeSTivApp: for stroke rehabilitation exercises 90° 225 TDC BDC ViaTherapy: supporting clinical decision making in upper limb rehabilitation U-PED: walking rehabilitation after stroke; collaborative design from concept to commercialisation

4 Assessing concussion at the pitch-side:
Dr Michael Grey, working with VirtualWare- visit the UEA booth for more information

5 Translational Neuroscience
Working with industrial partners Examples include: Engineers App designers Design Council UK Rehabilitation technology companies e.g. co-funded PhD investigating Virtual Reality for stroke rehabilitation, with VirtualWare Translating neuroscience concepts to develop better assessments and deliver more effective treatments.

6 Lessons for device design in rehabilitation
The end is too late, we cannot “impose” technological solutions: Adopt the three C’s of creative design solutions to optimise uptake: 6 End user? Co-producer Collaborator Colleague
