4 Letters of Recommendation
Each senior should complete a profile sheet. The profile sheet will be used to assist with writing letters of recommendation Students should ask an AHS staff member, coach, employer, etc. to write a letter of recommendation Most colleges, scholarships and employers require letters of recommendation

5 Know Your Options Visit schools
Columbus Day is a popular day for “Open House” on college campuses Decide on which colleges to apply Create a list/spreadsheet of application deadlines and requirements (essays, transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc.) Work on college essays and ask teachers/parents/friends to review Complete and submit applications by NOVEMBER 1ST (this is the priority deadline)

6 AHS College Visits Seniors have unlimited visits with college representatives presenting at AHS. However, make good use of your time Sign up for college representative visits using this link Attendance is taken during the actual college visit Go to the AHS Counselor webpage, AHS calendar or the green bulletin board located in the Main Hallway for the most updated list of visits

7 The Application Process
Deadlines: Pay attention to the deadlines provided by each institution Criteria: Admission requirements vary by each institution Transcripts: Use Parchment to send your transcripts to institutions Letters of Recommendation: Give the writer at least 2 weeks notice. Provide them with your completed Student Profile Sheet Essay/Personal Statement: Make sure your writing leaves a positive impression on the college admissions team

8 Transcripts Use Parchment to send transcripts to post-secondary institutions Use the Scholarship Transcript Request Form to have a transcript sent to an organization Forms are available in the CAPA/Gifted Auburn Office

9 Interested in the Military?
Talk to recruiters to learn about different programs/benefits Research the advantages/disadvantages of serving Learn about active military vs. reserves/National Guard Take the ASVAB test!!!

10 Funding Your Future Military service is an education funding option
Starting your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): apply early (starting October 1st) at An ISAC (Illinois Student Assistance Commission) representative is in the College and Career Readiness Conference Room every Tuesday during rd – 6th hours. Sign-in using Community Scholarships are listed on the Scholarship Board located in the Main Hallway and the AHS Counselor webpage Post-secondary institutions provide scholarships to admitted students. Ask the Financial Aid Office for assistance

11 Starting Your Career Research your interests and career opportunities if you plan to move directly into a career Identify additional training and education needed for the career you want Job shadow/connect with people in your desired field Develop your resume (volunteer/work experience, skills, references, etc.)

12 Senior Conferences Dates: We will be calling seniors down the week of September 19th Information: Each senior will meet with their counselor to discuss post high school plans and graduation status Length: Will depend on how many questions you have for your counselor. Without questions, meetings typically last around 15 minutes
