3 Four reasons to take notes?
Note taking is a life skill. Notes provide material to study and review for tests. Note taking focuses attention in class and while reading a textbook. Note taking aids memory.

4 The final note page has 4 parts.
Creating the Note Page Create a fold or divide about 1/3 left and 2/3 right side. The final note page has 4 parts. Header Left side topics or questions. Detail Summary

5 Header Placement at the top of page. Name and course.
Descriptive title/topic. Date/Period Easy to neglect - but don’t!

6 Detail Located in the right hand column.
Enter details (use pages as needed). Leave space between one main idea and its details and another main idea and its details. Use abbreviations, short phrases, symbols, diagram, sketches, etc.

7 After taking notes Rewrite and/or reorganize notes.
Add/elaborate on notes taken. Compare notes with other students. Left column enter key subtopics or essential questions for detail. Summary Section - First page of main topic only - 3-4 sentence summary of what was learned.

How do I study the notes? Cover up the details. Looking only at the main idea questions, recite the details aloud from memory without looking. Uncover the details to see if you have learned the material or not. Repeat as necessary. Note taking is an important skill in learning by summarizing and repetition of important information and providing material to prepare for tests. The Cornell note system is an effective method for note taking in class or while reading a textbook. In the system main ideas and detail are captured and then questions and summary are drawn from the material.

9 How to use the notes to study?
Cover up the details. Looking only at the idea/questions. Recite details aloud from memory. Uncover the details to check. Repeat as necessary.
