“What You Need To Know About The Coming Fight Over Planned Parenthood Funding.” Susan Davis congressional reporter, who has covered Congress, elections, and national politics since She has worked for USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, National Journal, and Roll Call. Davis graduated from American University. Bias against defunding PP. Planned Parenthood is not directly funded by the government, but it does receive payment from federal funds; that Planned Parenthood has become increasingly polarized: targeted by the GOP, championed by Democrats. It also argued that Republicans aren't quite sure Donald Trump is on their side; the fact that Planned Parenthood is gearing up for a fight and ready for one; and it argued that the threat to defund it was strong because for the first time in a decade the GOP will control both chambers and the White House. (Davis; 2017) This source allows me to argue that more people need to be in the know about how detrimental it would be to defund PP, and how possible it could be with the new administration.

“Planned Parenthood Provides Essential Services That Improve Women's Health.” Hal Lawrence and Debra Ness, gynecologists and were part of the “American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and National Partnership for Women and Families.” Bias against defunding PP “Defunding Planned Parenthood would create a health-care crisis for millions of women. “The health-care system doesn't work in the way that opponents [of Planned Parenthood] think it does”, she said. “You can't end services for millions of women and overnight get a replacement in every community where they're needed.”(Lawrence; Ness. 2017) This source allows me to argue that those who want to defund planned parenthood are not understanding how the healthcare system works.

“Planned Parenthood, allies ready for battle over government funding
“Planned Parenthood, allies ready for battle over government funding.” Eliza Collins-Journalist for USA Today. Bias against defunding PP “Planned Parenthood received $553.7 million in government funding in The majority of the money comes by way of reimbursement for services the centers provide to Medicaid patients. While Planned Parenthood does perform abortions, the government funds are not allowed to be used to pay for them except in cases of rape or incest or when a woman’s life is in danger.” (Collins; 2017) This source allows me to argue how much PP gets from government funding and how detrimental it would be to defund them.

“How Abortion Harms Women and Why Concerns for Women’s Health must be part of Abortion- related Policies and Media Debate” Americans United For Life. Bias against the health risks of abortion. No author listed. 1. Abortion has undisputed immediate health risks. 2. Studies reveal that the long-term physical and psychological consequences of abortion include an increased risk of: subsequent preterm birth; placenta previa (a complication during pregnancy where the placenta partially or totally covers the mother’s cervix and which can cause severe bleeding before or during delivery); serious mental health problems; breast cancer as a result of the loss of the protective effect of a first full-term pregnancy; miscarriage; and death.iii 3. The known, substantial health risks of chemical abortions may be significantly underreported. 4. It is undisputed that the later in pregnancy an abortion occurs, the riskier it is and the greater the chance for significant complications. This source allows me to argue why some people are so strongly against abortion, and this helps me see the opposing side argument.

Planned Parenthood 2016 Annual Report- No bias just facts and stats about PP
277,847 total patient visits SUMMARY CONTRACEPTION – 177,491 STI TESTS – 264,359 CANCER SCREENING AND PREVENTION – 38,535 ABORTION SERVICES – 16,079 PREGNANCY TESTS – 73,550 Abortion was 5.7% of their services for the year of 2016 They have reported only having it be 3% of their services in the past This source allows me to argue that planned parenthood still does perform a small percentage of abortions compared to the other services they provide that are beneficial to women’s health.

“Defunding Planned Parenthood—The Stakes for America’s Women” Chloe Ciccariello-MD University of California, San Francisco, San Francisco. Author is bias toward the funding of planned parenthood. “Planned Parenthood has 57 local affiliates that operate about 650 health centers across the United States. In 2015, the organization received $553 million in reimbursement and grants from the federal government, $309 million from private insurers, $353 million from donations, and $80 million from other sources.2 According to the organization, 2.5 million men and women in the United States visit the health centers each year, and an estimated 1 in 5 women has visited a center at least once in her life.6 Since the November 2016 federal elections, the president of Planned Parenthood reports a “900% increase” in the number of women seeking appointments for the insertion of an IUD.7” This source allows me to argue how scared people have become due to the 2016 elections results, because so many people rely heavily on PP, and contraceptives.

“Effort to defund Planned Parenthood threatens Obamacare repeal” Deirdre Walsh-” Deirdre Walsh is a Senior Congressional Producer for CNN. “Over the last 14 years at CNN, Walsh has covered major news stories including: four presidential campaigns, several midterm elections, Congress' handling of the 2008 financial crisis, lengthy negotiations over health care reform, the battle over fiscal policy and the nation's debt limit, the Sept 11, 2001 attacks, and the Shuttle Columbia disaster.”-CNN Bio. Bias against defunding PP “The vast majority of federal money that Planned Parenthood does receive funds preventive health care, birth control, pregnancy tests, and other women's health care services. Democrats also point out that much of the money the group received is through the Medicaid program, which reimburses health care clinics that provide care to those covered by the federal program.” “Under the long-standing "Hyde amendment" that is attached to annual funding bills, no federal money is allowed to go to programs that include abortion services, unless they are needed to preserve the life of the mother or are caused by rape.” This source allows me to argue that we already have legislation in place that does not allow federal money to go to abortion services if they are not for emergency use. I can argue this point because many people just want to defund planned parenthood all together, without knowing about things like this.

“U.S. News: States Are Warned on Planned Parenthood Funding”- Stephanie Armour. Journalist for the Wall Street Journal “Stephanie Armour has joined The Wall Street Journal as a financial, banking and consumer regulation reporter based in Washington, D.C, a company spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday. She previously worked at Bloomberg News where she covered food safety and public health…Armour previously worked as a reporter at USA Today and the Des Moines Register. She is a 1997 graduate of the University of Minnesota and also went through the Knight Science Program boot camp at MIT.” States that terminate their Medicaid-provider agreements with Planned Parenthood affiliates because they offer abortions may be in violation of that law because they are restricting access by not permitting recipients to get services from providers of their choice. States have taken action to curtail funding because federal efforts to defund the organization haven't been successful. Federal law does prohibit the use of federal funds for abortions except in cases of rape, incest, or if the woman's life is endangered. About $528 million, or 41% of Planned Parenthood's revenue, comes from state, local and federal funds, its latest annual report states. And more than 70% of that is reimbursements for services under Medicaid. This source allows me to argue how detrimental it would be for our law system if we stopped funding planned parenthood and that the federal funds only go to abortion in extreme cases.
