John Brown wanted to – Start a slave rebellion Planned to – Get guns and arm slaves surrounding area How many were in his army? – 20 including three sons

3 Continued Where was the arsenal John Brown attacked–
Harpers Ferry, Virginia only 55 miles from D.C. After he took the arsenal – Sent men in the countryside to round up slaves, but none came. What happened next- Robert E. Lee and his marines defeated Brown and reclaimed the arsenal

Lincoln would move to abolish slavery South Carolina’s legislature – Voted to secede from the union S.C. thought it was legal because – States voluntarily joined the union, so why not leave
