1 Creating an institutional repository elements for success!
As a general note, I feel that we need to focus more on the audience in this workshop – to the point of calling them out if necessary Post-conference workshop April 5, 2017 Electronic Resources and Libraries

2 Goals Interaction Discussion Openness Innovation Networking Levity
Learning Added “innovation”

3 Introductions Tell us about yourself
I think that a more personal introduction might help others open up in later discussion. Exactly what we expect them to tell us can be discussed.

4 Part One: General Discussion about Your IR

5 Your IR Discuss the following questions (real or hypothetical IR):
What services does your IR provide? Who is your IR’s service base? What kinds of content are in your IR? What is the interest in your IR? I like all of this – one addition: make sure we get responses from each person – we should take that chance to question or expand an each answer.

6 Part Two: Your IR Team

7 The Team Teambuilding Expertise Talents Salesmanship
General introduction to the building of the original team seems fine - something that is almost shunned here is the idea of “salesmanship” – perhaps we could turn the four terms listed into questions: what is salesmanship for you? Etc.

8 The Team Discussion ideas: What is the make-up of your IR team?
How is expertise divided among the team members? Do you provide mediated services? Role of student workers in your IR? Maybe also include not just what your actual team is composed of, or what it does, but ask the group what would the ideal scenario be

9 Part Three: Promotion & Marketing

10 Promotion & Marketing Strategies
Discuss your efforts and ideas concerning promotion and marketing of your IR: What is your approach to promotion? Do you have a marketing plan? Presentations? Who, what, where? What would you like to do differently? How effective is social media? I would like this section to focus more on the audience, with our prompting and prodding. Again, if something isn’t in place, such as a marketing plan, we should ask the participant what would a marketing plan for them resemble.

11 Practice Define your IR with: A one to three minute speech and
A two to three paragraph write-up Take five minutes to prepare for each After you are finished, present each to the group Last time we didn’t walk around and offer assistance, I believe – we should do so this time.

12 Your Elevator Speech What is your message?
What will catch their attention? What makes an effective promotion? Again, mainly audience participation here with our prompting, prodding, questioning

13 Your Written Collateral
What is your message? What will catch their attention? What makes an effective promotion? Perhaps we should set a limit – say 3 to 5 sentences – for this. Then, put each into a box, shuffle them, and then you and I read them and get the audiences response – anonymous unless the person wants to come forward.

14 We have a digital platform that will
highlight the works of your faculty and student projects We can digitize the creative works of your artists We offer a stable digital platform that students and faculty can use promote their works and link to their e-portfolios

15 Part Four: Processing & Publishing

16 Processing & Publishing Issues
Issues with mediation and workflows Issues within the process of developing, creating and launching a journal (and other publications) Non-traditional research formats I’ll take this section and work on it further – I might want to change some aspects.

17 Wrap-up Additional concerns and questions?

18 What have we learned? Discussion summaries Review of exercises
